Andreja Pejic has made her first public appearance as a woman following her gender reassignment surgery.

The model joined designer Jean Paul Gaultier and fellow model Alexandra Agoston at the launch of Gaultier's new fashion exhibition at the NGV in Melbourne wearing a flowing electric blue dress and black high heels.

Pejic, who formerly went by the name Andrej, made headlines in the fashion industry for her versatile look, which enabled her to model both men and womenswear.

Her first runway appearance was for Gaultier in 2010, where she wowed industry insiders with her unusual look.

"Andrej is obviously beautiful and he has the most amazing figure," said Hilary Alexander from the Telegraph UK, "when you consider that a lot of designers are designing for this impossible ideal for someone who is 5ft 11in, no hips and no chest."

marie claire Australia first spotted the model post gender reassignment surgery at a fashion week party in New York, where she told us she was "beyond excited" the surgery was complete.

"I knew I was a woman from a young age," she said.

Australian-raised Pejic is a former refugee from Serbia. She joined modelling agency Chadwick's just two years ago, with the company's director, Matthew Anderson, stating at the time, "Andrej's beauty is extraordinary. He's also intelligent and it's amazing, really, that he survived growing up in Broadmeadows, that he's just so comfortable in his own skin."
