Ella Henderson isn't your average reality TV starlet. The 18-year old singer - who finished sixth on the British version of the X Factor in 2012 - is also a talented songwriter who has shies away from the limelight. In the two years since she left X Factor she has been quietly working on material for her hotly-anticipated debut album, 'Chapter One', released this week. Featuring the smash-hit single 'Ghost' (co-written by One Republic's Ryan Tedder), the album's songs are a dreamy, wistful window into her world. We sat down with the star to find out the story behind 'Chapter One', what she thinks about the X Factor and what she sings when she gets behind the karaoke mic.

MC: What's the story behind the title of your album 'Chapter One'?
EH: My album is like an open diary and this is my first chapter. I talk about everything on there, from growing up and my best friend, through to now.

MC: If you could sum up your time on the X Factor in one word, what would it be?
EH: Whirlwind.

MC: Favourite X Factor alumnae: Leona Lewis or One Direction?
EH: They're both so different! I respect them both. Both Leona and One Direction have been so successful not only in the UK but around the world. Leona I think was the first person from the X Factor to have that level of success.

MC: What was the first CD you bought?
EH: It was a Destiny's Child one. I love Beyonce!

MC: What's your guilty pleasure?
EH: At the moment I'm hooked on a TV show called Dance Moms. It's so wrong but so good! I love a bit of trashy TV!

MC: What's your go-to Karaoke song?
EH: Valerie by Mark Ronson featuring Amy Winehouse.

MC: Where do you want to be 10 years from now?
EH: Gosh, I can't even think that far ahead! I'm just taking each day as it comes and we'll see what happens, but I'd love to still be doing things with my songwriting.

Ella Henderson's debut album Chapter One is out now.
