MAFS' Timothy's surprise marriage revealed

It turns out "marrying" Lucinda Light wasn't Tim's first marriage.

It's been revealed that Married At First Sight wasn't Timothy Smith's first time as a married man, with it being widely reported that the groom was previously married for seven years.

While on the show Timothy said his last relationship ended six years ago, it was never mentioned on screen that he had been married throughout his early twenties.

According to So Dramatic, Timothy, 51, got married in his youth after meeting his ex in Vancouver Canada, with her then relocating to Queensland to live with him. According to the podcast, when she got homesick in Australia and wanted to go back to Canada, Timothy couldn't go with her unless they were married so they tied the knot and moved to Canada together.

The couple were married for seven years before getting a divorce, with So Dramatic citing 'cultural reasons' for the split — according to the podcast, the woman is of Eastern Indian heritage and her parents were not approving of Timothy.

The pair, however, are still said to be on "good terms" and are still friends, speaking regularly.

Lucinda shuts down MAFS expert rumours

A MAFS insider previously told Yahoo Lifestyle that Lucinda was tipped to be offered the role of relationship expert on the New Zealand iteration of the hit series saying: "Channel Nine were hoping to keep this under wraps until after the season finishes as they prefer to keep the contestants as real and relatable as possible. However, no one's more happy for Lucinda than the creators of MAFS. She deserves this."

However, in an interview with Triple M WA’s Robbie Von, Lucinda revealed that she will not be taking on the role of an expert as she isn’t in "any place to comment on anybody’s relationship".

"I don't think I really am in any place to comment on anybody's relationship or marriage," she said. "I mean, I'm not in one successfully, so I just don't feel like I belong on an expert couch there personally. I think even if the job was offered it would probably be a no from me.”
