MAFS' Stephen shares if he's still in contact with the hairdresser he 'flirted' with
EXCLUSIVE: The 2024 intruder reveals his current relationship status and where he stands with his ex Michael.
While Married At First Sight is known for including at least one cheating scandal each season, Stephen Stewart’s confession that he felt a ‘spark’ with someone else during filming was perhaps the least dramatic one viewers have ever seen.
The intruder groom was called out by his partner Michael Felix for having a flirty conversation with a hairdresser during an off-camera publicity shoot, which later continued via text when they exchanged numbers.
While Stephen made it clear in the episode that he had no intention to pursue anything with the stranger, he admitted that the brief conversation was a “lightbulb moment” that made him realise he and Michael were “fighting a losing battle” and should end their relationship.
The reality star has now opened up about the incident on Yahoo Lifestyle’s Behind the Edit podcast and revealed whether or not he’s been in contact with the anonymous hairdresser since leaving the experiment.
“I messaged him once the episode came out, I found him on Instagram and sent him a message and just apologised for getting involved in all of this. But other than that, no, we've had no communication,” he shared.

Stephen, who is also a hairdresser, went on to say that the spark he felt with the other man was simply because it felt easy to talk to him and have banter.
“We had known each other for 30 seconds and we could have a laugh and we had common interests and it was just an easy conversation,” he explained.
“And I think that for me was like a [realisation that] it shouldn't be this hard with Michael. Any other relationship or friendship that's ever grown into anything, it doesn't take this much work.
“I think deep down Michael obviously knew that. We caught up at a later date, we were sitting there having a drink and it was like, we really just have no chemistry. We’ve got nothing in common and it’s really hard to try and converse. So for me, that’s what it was. It was less about having a spark or wanting to flirt or wanting to pursue anything there and more about like, in our marriage, what we're missing is just common ground and a friendship really.”
Are Stephen and Michael still in contact?
Despite meeting up after the show for a friendly drink, Stephen revealed that he and Michael are no longer in contact.
“Unfortunately we don't talk anymore. We did once the show finished, we actually finished in a really good place,” he detailed.
“Typically when you both write ‘leave’ on the couch you get separated, but we were in a really good place. We did kind of have this crazy ride together so we opted to just stay in our apartment together for the last night and we had a good night. We watched some movies and had a cheese board, and then we kept in contact over the months after the show.
“But I think rewatching it and everything that's come with this show and the interviews and the storyline that's been portrayed, that did cause a rift with us. And I suppose that was inevitable. We’re such different people so it was always going to be hard to keep a friendship.”

As for his current relationship status, Stephen confirmed that he’s been seeing someone new since the show and plans to keep it private.
“I’ve actually met someone, so that's been awesome to have someone to kind of rewatch [the show],” he said.
“It’s a pretty unique experience being in a new relationship and watching your partner get married to someone else. But it's been awesome to kind of have someone to go through this experience with.”
