Exclusive: MAFS groom says 'vile' rumour could spark legal action
When a groom stuck his wife’s toothbrush into the toilet and scrubbed actual human poo with it, then left her to brush her teeth with said brush, MAFS fans could have been forgiven for thinking this season had hit absolute rock bottom.
But as a MAFS groom steps up to defend his family against ‘ridiculous’ rumours, it seems the season has further yet to fall.
Mikey Pembroke has come out swinging against claims from fellow contestant Stacey Hampton that Mikey told her his on-screen wife Natasha Spencer had ‘seduced’ his dad.
Stacey made the explosive revelation to New Idea, claiming Mikey told her about the rumour, and saying she later confronted Natasha about the claims on camera, though it’s not known if the footage will be shown.
Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, Mikey slammed the claim as entirely false and detailed the impact it has had on his family.
“I didn’t tell her anything,” he says.
“She only brought it up when she was cornered at the dinner party... she never said a word about it before.”
Mikey says his family has been left devastated by the rumours, and are looking into taking legal action.
“My father is contemplating legal proceedings,” he says, adding his dad Andrew and the whole family are ‘really upset’ about the story.
“He is a doctor and runs aged-care businesses,” he says.
“This has taken it too far.”
To whoever started the rumours he says, “leave it with me, don’t involve my family.”
Natasha supports Mikey’s version of events, telling Yahoo Lifestyle the entire saga is ‘completely untrue’ and that the only contact she had with Mikey’s dad was on the show for parents’ day and the wedding.
“I cannot believe that anyone would start such a horrible rumour,” she says.
“I'd ask that the media please respect the Pembroke family and stop spreading this vile and inappropriate gossip. It's not fair to bring Mikey's family members into these unfounded stories."
Stacey doubles down on ‘false’ rumour
Stacey, on the other hand, insists that Mikey was the one who first repeated the rumour to her, though agrees that it did not actually happen.
“Mikey said it to me when we had coffee,” she tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “I wouldn’t lie or make it up.”
Stacey claims Natasha joked about it with Mikey, who then took the joke seriously.
“It didn’t happen but Mikey said it did [as a result of] her joke,” she says, adding she believes he knew the rumour wasn’t true but was trying to rationalise his decision to leave the experiment.
Mikey and Stacey both deny that Natasha made such a joke, or that Mikey relayed it to Stacey or anyone else.
