MAFS' Johnny and Kerry share exciting family announcement: 'Thrilled'

The reality TV couple have shared some huge news just over a year after tying the knot.

Married At First Sight's Johnny and Kerry Balbuziente have announced that they are expecting their first child together.

The season eight couple, who tied the knot in January 2023, took to Instagram on Thursday evening to share the exciting news alongside a sweet family photo.

The snap shows the pair sitting by the pool with their dog Enzo, with Kerry cradling her baby bump while Johnny rests his head against her tummy.

“Baby B incoming, June 2024,” they wrote in the caption. “Thrilled to be adding a much-wanted and already so-loved member to our family.

“Our journey took a bit longer than we’d hoped for but not as long as others. Thinking of everyone still on their path.”

The couple were quickly flooded with congratulatory messages from their famous followers, including several MAFS stars.

“Ooohhhh congratulations you two! I’m so delighted for you, you will be fabulous parents,” relationship expert Mel Schilling commented.

“Awwww congratulations you two!! What a beautiful miracle,” Ella Ding replied, followed by Olivia Frazer who said, “Hooray! Congratulations you angels!”.

“Wow I love this,” Al Perkins said, while Beck Zemek added, “Congratulations the best news”.

“Congratulations!!! Wonderful news,” The Block’s Mitch and Mark shared, with The Bachelor’s Holly Kingston writing, “Congrats legends”.

Johnny and Kerry reveal MAFS bombshell

While Johnny and Kerry are one of only five MAFS couples who are still together after filming the reality show, it turns out they weren’t originally matched with each other in the experiment.

The couple revealed to Yahoo Lifestyle last year that they almost had a completely different experience on the reality show.

“I don’t think anyone really knows this story, but I was supposed to marry someone else,” Johnny shared. “I had flown into Sydney early, and the girl that I was supposed to be matched with dropped out the night before the bucks party.

“I was so nervous and I had a shower and a shave and I got into bed and I was like, ‘Okay, get a good night's sleep and we start this process tomorrow’. And then the executive producer called me at nine o’clock and told me the news.”

Rather than flying back home to Brisbane or leaving the experiment altogether, the producers offered Johnny accommodation in Sydney for five weeks while they found him another match.

Meanwhile, Kerry was given just four days’ notice to leave her life on the Sunshine Coast and fly to Sydney so she could walk down the aisle to Johnny.

“I had applied and went the whole way through [the application process] and they were like, ‘You'll know by August if you’re on’,” she detailed. “August came and went and I was like, ‘Eh, I didn’t get on, no big deal’ and I got on with my life.

“And then I got a phone call out of the blue on a Tuesday in September and it was like, ‘You’re on but you’ve got to go by Saturday’. So I had to pack up my life and hand over my full-time job and all of that.”

“If that’s not fate, I have no idea what is,” Johnny remarked. “I’m eternally grateful.”
