Loot Season 2: Do Molly and Arthur get together and will there be a third season?

EXCLUSIVE: Yahoo Lifestyle spoke to star Michaela Jaé Rodriguez about what we can expect from the comedy.

Since its debut on Apple TV+ in June 2022, Loot has captured the hearts of viewers with its story of self-exploration, philanthropy, and the unending potential for personal growth, regardless of age. Led by the talented Maya Rudolph, this laugh-out-loud comedic gem quickly won over viewers, securing a second season even before the dust had settled on the first.

In exciting news for fans of the show, Apple TV+ has recently announced that season 2 of Loot will premiere on Wednesday, April 3, debuting with two episodes, followed by new drops every Wednesday through May 29.

Loot season 2: A long-awaited return

The second season of Loot has been hotly anticipated by fans. Initial filming commenced in early 2023, yet encountered an unforeseen obstacle due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike. As reported by Deadline, production was stopped not by the choice of the cast and crew but by the disruptive impact of picketers.

Following the resolution of the strike, production swiftly resumed, and this February, Apple TV+ announced the global premiere of Loot's highly anticipated second season.

Who is in the cast of Loot season 2?

Fans of the first season can rest easy knowing that the core ensemble is set to return in the subsequent season.

Maya Rudolph will reprise her role as Molly Novak, the character who, after divorcing her billionaire husband, undergoes a transformation from socialite to generous philanthropist.

Joining her will be Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, playing Sofia Salinas, Joel Kim Booster as Nicholas, and Ron Funches as Howard. Nat Faxon, Adam Scott, Meagen Fay, Stephanie Styles, and Olivier Martinez will also be making a return to continue their performances from season 1.

New guest stars including Benjamin Bratt, Ana Gasteyer, and O-T Fagbenle, among others, will also appear in the second season.

What to expect from Loot season 2

Apple TV+ has revealed season 2 of Loot picks up a year after season 1 left off. Molly is fully immersed in her role as the head of the Wells Foundation, her philanthropic organisation, and is thriving. She is determined to focus solely on her charitable work and has made a commitment to not get involved with men romantically.

However, Molly isn't entirely alone. Her steadfast assistant Nicholas is by her side, catering to her every need and sometimes slipping in a gin-spiked kale smoothie. Meanwhile, Sofia (Michaela Jaé), the efficient executive director of the Wells Foundation, finds herself challenged when she meets Molly's architect friend Isaac (O-T Fagbenle), who brings a charismatic and unpredictable energy into her life.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez said that it was refreshing to see the usually serious Sofia unravel a bit in the new season.

"There are times where she spirals and even me as Michaela, I'm like, girl, get it together!", she said. "I love that I love that the audience gets to get a glimpse over her shoulder to see her kind of squirm a bit. We haven't seen her squirm. We've always seen her really keep her composure."

The close bond between Howard (Ron Funches) and Nicholas continues to grow, providing mutual support both in and out of the workplace. Arthur (Nat Faxon), who previously had feelings for Molly, has now and has adopted a new devil-may-care attitude in life.

The Wells Foundation team, including Rhonda (Meagen Fay) and Ainsley (Stephanie Styles), must pull together as co-workers and friends as Molly strives to publicly live up to her promise of giving away all of her vast fortune.

Do Arthur and Molly get together in Loot season 2?

For much of season one, it certainly appeared that this unlikely duo were on the brink of getting together - or at the very least, having a bit of a fling, but then Molly ended up drunkenly sleeping with her ex-husband in the final episode!

So, where does that leave Arthur now? Well, as mentioned above, he's got a new 'tude (and a questionable leather bracelet) and Molly's got a new mission to avoid dating so there could be a few obstacles in the way of them pairing up.

Michaela Jaé told Yahoo Lifestyle what she hopes the future holds for the pair, saying, "From the rooter to the tooter!! I think that they should be married and have children and live happily ever after. But that's just my thought!".

However, in the trailer for the second season, we also see that Molly has what looks to be a rather steamy encounter with none other than Benjamin Bratt, which could throw yet another spanner in the works for her and Arthur.

Never say never though!

What happened in Loot season 1?

In its first season, Loot followed the journey of Maya Rudolph's character, Molly Novak, following her divorce from the wealthy John Novak, portrayed by Adam Scott. With a newfound passion for philanthropy, Molly embarked on a mission to reestablish her charitable foundation and to make a meaningful contribution to society.

Molly's path was strewn with a series of obstacles and revelations. She grappled with the complexities of philanthropic work and wrestled with the consequences of her privileged upbringing. As she confronted her past errors and inner demons, Molly forged deep bonds with her colleagues, notably Howard (played by Ron Funches) and Nicholas (played by Joel Kim Booster).

As the season unfolded, Molly made a profound decision to donate her entire fortune, signalling her evolution from a society figure to an advocate for progressive change.

Will there be a third season of Loot?

Sadly, nothing has been confirmed yet but there are plenty of fans - and cast members - who are keeping everything crossed there will be.

"We don't know about a possible third season and I'm actually hopeful for one - I'm praying and hoping that we get one," Michaela told Yahoo Lifestyle.

Elaborating further on the importance of a third season she said, "Being a trans woman of colour, you come into most spaces and we have a lot of trauma that comes with us and that we work through and that we heal. I'm on a healing journey and my healing journey for me was going into a space and knowing that I deserve to be there and that the people around me will make me feel that way.

They did that first season so second season I was so happy to go back because I missed them, I missed all of them and you know I hope we get blessed enough to have a third season again because I wouldn't change it for the world."
