Long nights, mastitis and lots of love: Carrie Bickmore's first weeks with baby Adelaide

Juggling three kids and sleepless nights is no easy feat, as Carrie Bickmore will tell you.

The Project host has opened up about her first couple of weeks at home with baby Adelaide, and said her support network is everything.

Speaking about her husband on Instagram she wrote, “While I rest Chris looks after Adelaide, wrangles a cray cray 3 year old, folds the clothes and entertains a bored 11 year old …#DomesticGod #Fatherhood.”

“You can tell I am feeling grateful today…it would be so hard without support…grandparents helping out, and friends dropping off meals. Thanks to everyone helping us get through these early days”.

She also shared a very early text message from her cousin who sent her love to Carrie at 4.42am, on the off chance she was awake with the baby.

“This message from my cousin was exactly what I needed in the middle of the night when Adelaide wouldn’t settle and I was feeling horrendous with mastitis,” Carrie said.

“The middle of the night can be such a lonely time as my cousin knows all too well with her own kids. Love you Fran. Hate you mastitis”.

A common source of pain and discomfort amongst breastfeeding mums, mastitis is an inflammation of the breast which is often the result of a blocked milk duct.

Carrie and Chris are about to spent their first Christmas as a family of five, and although Carrie was worried about how her elder two children, Ollie and Evie, would cope with the change, it seems things have turned out very well.

She even shared a gorgeous letter Ollie wrote to his youngest sister saying, “you are the cutest baby I have ever seen. I hope I am a good big bro and I will guide you through life.”

It’s going to be a happy holiday season for the Bickmore household.
