Lizzo divides fans with weight loss transformation: 'Beautiful before'

"New year, new me."

Lizzo has divided fans after seemingly losing weight, with some praising her and others slamming those claiming it to be a good thing. Fans noticed a difference in the 35-year-old, who is known for her body positivity, as she modelled some activewear designs from her label Yitty on Instagram.

"New year, new me," she says in the video. "Yes, that's right we're putting ourselves first this year, you guys. You don't have to wait to feel like the best version of yourself."

"We see [you] shedding pounds love. Even [though you] were beautiful before," another added.

"Everyone that is saying the weight loss is beautiful is what gets me. @lizzobeeating you were beautiful before, just as you are beautiful now, weight loss is great, but it's not what makes or breaks your beauty!" a third hit back.

"Baby girl you've lost weight — I hope you're doing ok & taking care of yourself," someone else added.

Some also questioned if she was using Ozempic, with one user writing, "Is this where Ozempic comes in? Showing off weight loss and being proud of that? It’s hard to understand."

"That Ozempic out here changing lives," another added.

"I think it's more likely to be stress than Ozempic," a third said.

"She was sexier before," someone else wrote.

Many others left comments, saying no one should be commenting on her weight in the first place.

"Y'all don't know how to just shut the f**k up about someone's appearance?" one fan said.

"Reading all these comments and realising how barbaric so many of y’all are… you don’t have to talk about her weight... she is beautiful and that is all that matters... Y’all need to chillllllllllll..." yet another added.

"Her weight is none of anyone's business. No one's is. Stop commenting on it," someone else wrote.

'I don't ever want to be thin'

Lizzo has previously spoken about her body image struggles and has always encouraged her fans to embrace their bodies, no matter their size. Last year, she spoke about her relationship with exercise, adding that she doesn't have a desire to lose weight.

The singer stitched a video on TikTok from a creator who said, "Weight loss comes with the territory, but I'm not trying to escape fatness."

Lizzo agreed with the statement, saying, "Heavy on the 'not trying to escape fatness.' Heavy f**king on it."

"I have a very high-performance job," she continued. "For 90 minutes a night, I have to do choreography, I have to sing, I have to dance, I have to rap, and I have to play the flute. And I have to emote and hype a crowd in very tight clothes, sometimes clothes where it restricts my breathing.

"It's fun. I love my job. It takes a lot of physical endurance to do what I do, and I used to be very rockstar lifestyle, used to throw myself around on the stage," she added. "As I got more professional in my career, I started to take the physical part more seriously. I've always loved moving my body, I've always loved working out."

She added that despite caring about her health, she has never wanted to be thin.

"I'm not trying to be thin, I don't ever want to be thin," Lizzo said. "Will my body fluctuate from this size? Will I get a little smaller depending on some of the choices I make, or a little bigger depending on some of the choices I make in my life? Yes. I'm used to fluctuating."

The singer continued, saying we should be embracing the ways in which our bodies change, as they won't ever stop changing as we move through life.
