Lizzie McGuire's original family are reuniting for reboot

If you found yourself worried that the Lizzie McGuire reboot would mangle your favourite early noughties TV series, think again because this reboot truly is what dreams are made of.

Disney Plus has confirmed that by some miracle, the entire original McGuire family is on board for the epilogue series.

Yep, that’s Lizzie (dah), mum Jo, dad Sam, and even not-so-little-anymore brother Matt, all 15 years wiser and ready to bring our favourite family back to life.

Actors Hallie Todd (Jo), Robert Carradine (Sam), and Jake Thomas (Matt) have joined Hilary Duff ahead of the table read, posing for a sentimental snap shared by Disney Plus on Friday morning.

Not previously confirmed to return, the post shared to the streaming service’s Instagram page claimed it was the first family reunion in over 15 years since the show wrapped,and let fans know that their favourite family was back in the biggest way.

Fans react online

Fans could barely contain their excitement at the news, with the post attracting thousands of likes and comments across Facebook and Instagram in the two hours since it was first shared.

One fan’s comment is perhaps the best way to summarise the mood among lovers of the series.

“YASSSS,” they wrote alongside heart emojis.

Others used a few more words to express themselves.

“Oh my goodness! They’re all together!! This is amazing!” was one person’s reaction.

“THIS IS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF,” another wittily wrote.

“Happiness in one picture!!!” another shared.

The news is the latest tidbit fans have been fed since the reboot was first announced in August.

Get your butterfly clips positioned, and your crimping iron fired up because it looks like the Lizzie McGuire return is going to be a throwback for the ages.

That said, it may be a case of swapping the crimper for a curling wand, and butterfly clips for the latest incarnation of the trend, as Hilary will be playing Lizzie a decade or two later than we last saw her.

The series will follow a now-30-year-old Lizzie who is making her way in the hustle and bustle of New York City as an apprentice for a big-shot decorator.

For those worried that the series may stray too far from our beloved original, have no fear, not only is the original series’ creator Terri Minsky behind the reboot, but cartoon Lizzie is also in for the project.

No word yet on whether beloved characters Gordo and Miranda will also make an appearance, but fans are holding out hope.
