For those who thought we didn’t need another streaming service, think again.

Disney has announced they will be rebooting cult classic Lizzie McGuire for it’s new streaming service Disney+, and Hilary Duff is in.

Yep, the actress is firing up the crimper and dusting off her butterfly clips to return as the sassy American sweetheart who brought all of our teenage awkwardness to the big screen in the early 00’s.

Hilary Duff confirms return on Instagram

The star confirmed the news in the best possible way, posting a montage of the series to her Instagram page, along with the announcement that Lizzie is back, baby.

“I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works!” the actress captioned the video.

“I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl... and into her 30’s.”

The actress also confirmed in a live appearance at Disney‘s D23 Expo that Lizzie is ‘all grown up’ and has a much bigger shoe budget promising all kinds of looks from the fashion queen.

It may also be more a case of swapping the crimper for a curling wand, and butterfly clips for the latest incarnation of the trend, as Hilary will be playing Lizzie a decade or two later than we last saw her.

The series will follow a now-30-year-old Lizzie who is making her way in the hustle and bustle of New York city as an apprentice for a big-shot decorator.

For those worried that the series may stray too far from our beloved original have no fear, not only is the original series’ creator Terri Minsky behind the reboot, but cartoon Lizzie is also in for the project.

No word yet on whether beloved characters Matt and Miranda, or Lizzie’s loveable but whacky family will also make an appearance, but fans are holding out hope.

Overwhelming excitement from fans

With no other details yet released, fans have taken to social media to celebrate the gift we didn’t know we needed from the entertainment giant.

“OH. MY. GOD. YES.” Meghan Trainor commented on Hilary’s announcement.

Other fans took to Twitter to celebrate the news.

You could say this is what dreams are made of.

The new series is the second Disney Channel blockbuster to be rebooted for Disney+, along with High School Musical.
