Lisa Wilkinson slams Piers Morgan for constant criticism of Meghan

Lisa Wilkinson has hit out at Piers Morgan following his continued criticism of Meghan Markle.

Piers stormed off the set of Good Morning Britain after his co-star slammed him for constantly "trashing" the Duchess of Sussex for years and continuing to do so in the wake of her and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The 55-year-old quit the show soon after with a statement from ITV reading, "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain."

"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

Lisa shared a photo of a number of Piers' columns for the Daily Mail in which he continues to criticise Meghan.

One headline reads, "If you're truly a humanitarian, Meghan, then show some damn heart to your loving father before he succumbs to a broken one."

Another reads, "Meghan Markle is a ruthless social climbing actress who has landed the role of her life and is determined to milk it for all she can - and that’s why the Palace is beginning to turn on her."

"This from Piers Morgan," Lisa wrote alongside the photo. "Years of abuse, right up to and including the day Meghan tells the world that ongoing abuse has made her suicidal.

"It’s what happens when a strong woman rejects a powerful man. For the record, Meghan has never responded to any of it."

"I love that he got called out for spewing his hate at Meghan by the weatherman Alex Beresford," one follower responded.

"The lengths people will go to justify or defend his behaviour," another added.

During Meghan's interview with Oprah, she shared how her mental health declined so severely after joining the royal family that she "didn't want to be alive" anymore.

Piers copped immense backlash after suggesting the Duchess' statement was false, saying: "I don't believe a word she says."

Meghan broke down in tears as she recalled a conversation she had with Prince Harry as she began to worry about her declining mental health.

"I just didn't see a solution," she said.

"I would sit up at night, and I was just like, I don't understand how this is being churned out and again I wasn’t seeing it but it’s almost worse when you feel it through the expression of my mum or my friends or them calling me crying, just like, 'Meg, they’re not protecting you'.

"I was really ashamed to say it at the time, and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry because I know how much loss he suffered.

"But I knew that if I didn't say it that I would do it. And I just didn't want to be alive anymore."

During his final day on Good Morning Britain, Piers was slammed by co-host Alex Beresford, who told him, "You’ve made it so clear a number of times on this program, a number of times."

"And I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one and she cut you off. She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to," he added.

"Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, yet you continue to trash her."

It was at that moment that Piers stormed off the set, saying he's "done with this", with Alex labelling him as "pathetic".

Piers has previously spoken of his relationship with Meghan, who were friends for a brief period of time before she met Harry. However, after seeing Harry, Meghan stopped speaking with Piers and he has seemingly taken it as a personal attack on him.
