Lily Allen branded an 'awful person' by fans after returning rescue dog: 'Ruined my life'

Fans have slammed Lily Allen after revealing she returned her rescue dog, saying the pup "ruined my life" when it ate her and her children's passports and visas. The singer shared the confession on her Miss Me? Podcast, saying the dog prevented her children from seeing their father for months after destroying their passports, adding it cost a fortune to replace.

It's assumed that Lily is referring to the pup she adopted with her now-husband David Harbour in 2021, called Mary. The pair adopted her from the New York City-based shelter Animal Haven.

"We actually did adopt a dog already, but then it ate my passport, and so I took her back to the home," she said on the podcast. "She ate all three of our passports, and they had our visas in.

"And I cannot tell you how much money it cost me to get everything replaced because it was in Covid, and so it was just an absolute logistical nightmare.

"And because the father of my children lives in England, I couldn't take them back to see their dad for like four months, five months, because this f***ing dog had eaten the passports."

She added, "And I just couldn't look at her. I was like 'you've ruined my life'."

"Passports weren't the only thing she ate, she was a very badly behaved dog and I really tried very hard with her, but it just didn't work out and the passports were the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak."

'All that's wrong with the world'

Many people took to X to share their thoughts on Lily's admission, with one user writing, "Lily Allen is all that’s wrong with the world, got a puppy, used it for likes on instagram and then sent it back to the home because it chewed up her family passports that she left within its reach. Hopefully this pup found someone who deserves her."

"If ever you needed confirmation that Lily Allen is a truly awful human being it’s her getting rid of her dog because her own stupidity meant she left passports in a place that the dog could get to them," another said.

"Lilly Allen has shown herself to be a selfish nasty woman," a third said. "She talks about a puppy being a very naughty dog. Yes you moron because a puppy is like a small child, they can be naughty. What an idiot."

"This is awful. Lily Allen is a deeply unlikeable woman," someone else wrote. "If a puppy is "badly behaved" then perhaps she should have trained her. What an awful, awful human."

PETA UK roasted the singer by sharing a post that read, "After @lilyallen revealed she returned her adopted dog to the shelter for chewing the families’ passports, PETA is begging the singer not to get another puppy.💔 We’re sending Lily a mechanical toy dog, which requires none of the round-the-clock care a real-life puppy does."

Many also shared stories of the dogs they'd adopted and the things they'd eaten and destroyed as pups, with one user writing, "He's family – not disposable."

"Bozo has chewed up at least four pairs of shoes, my airpods, antique chair, my glasses. And I am not returning him. Shame on you #LilyAllen," another said alongside a photo of an adorable puppy.
