The most shocking celebrity break-ups of 2023
These are the splits that we didn't see coming...
It's been a tough year for celebrity break-ups with many couples that we would never have guessed were having a tough time calling it quits on their long-term relationships.
Here are the ones that really shocked us...
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner
In September this year, singer Joe Jonas and his actress wife Sophie Turner released a statement confirming their marriage was over.
"After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage," they both posted on Instagram.
"There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children."
Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith
Actress Jodie Turner-Smith reportedly left her husband of four years and the father of her daughter Juno, Joshua Jackson heartbroken when she filed for divorce in September.
"Joshua is heartbroken over the impending divorce, he always thought that he would be married and grow old with his family, and everything would be happily ever after," an insider told the Daily Mail.
"Nothing horrible happened between the two like infidelity, the relationship just went its course, and it is just a sad time," they added.
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness
Again in September, after an astonishing (for Hollywood) 27 years of marriage, Aussie actors Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness called it quits.
Hugh, 54, and Deb, 67, announced their split via social media and added in a statement to People magazine: "We have been blessed to share almost three decades together in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth."

Bijou Phillips and Danny Masterson
Also in September, singer Bijou Phillips filed for divorce from her husband of almost 12 years, actor Danny Masterson. It came after Danny was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for the rape of two women.
In a statement to People magazine, Bijou's lawyer said: "Ms Phillips has decided to file for divorce from her husband during this unfortunate time. Her priority remains with her daughter. This period has been unimaginably hard on the marriage and the family.
"Mr Masterson was always present for Ms Phillips during her most difficult times of her life. Ms Phillips acknowledges that Mr Masterson is a wonderful father to their daughter."
Britney Spears and Sam Asghari
Sam Asghari filed for divorce from singer Britney Spears in August after six years together, one as husband and wife.
"After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together," he wrote on Instagram.
"We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always."
Britney replied in a post of her own saying: "I couldn’t take the pain anymore honestly... I will be as strong as I can and do my best!!! And I’m actually doing pretty damn good!"
Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello
After seven years of marriage, the America's Got Talent judge and her Magic Mike husband filed for divorce in July this year.
"We have made the difficult decision to divorce," the couple told Page Six in a statement. "As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives."
Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner
After nearly 19 years of marriage and three children, the Yellowstone star's wife Christine filed for divorce in May this year.
While it initially was quite messy with Kevin claiming Christine refused to move out of his property as per their pre-nuptial agreement, they have now both moved on after the financials were sorted out in court.
Shannen Doherty and Kurt Iswarienko
Shannen Doherty has been struggling with stage 4 breast cancer since 2020 after first being diagnosed with the disease in 2015 but this year also saw the demise of her 11-year marriage to photographer Kurt Iswarienko.
"Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted," Shannon's rep, Leslie Sloane, told People in a statement. "Unfortunately, she felt she was left with no other option."
Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth
In March actress Reese Witherspoon and her husband of 12 years, talent agent Jim Toth, announced they were splitting.
"It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce," Reese posted on her Instagram account in a co-signed statement.
"We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything that we have created together," the statement added.
