Carrie Bickmore leaving Channel Ten after Project exit

Channel Ten has confirmed Carrie Bickmore, 41, will be leaving the network after she finishes up on The Project next month.

"Yes, Carrie is leaving 10, but we hope to work with her again," a spokesperson told TV Tonight.

Carrie has been working with Ten for 17 years, with 13 of those spent on The Project.

It comes after her Project co-host Peter Helliar shared a photo revealing Ten had taken down a photo of Carrie from the studio hallways just one day after she made her shock announcement.

"Wow @channel10au have reacted swiftly to @bickmorecarrie big farewell news!" he wrote alongside a snap of Carrie happily posing in front of the empty frame.

"That’s showbiz," Eddie Perfect joked.

"Has she already had her photo shoot with Karl?" one follower asked, referencing the Today Show's Karl Stefanovic.

"Hahaha they’re not salty at all," another wrote.

"Chair not even cold yet," a third added.

"How do you know you made the right choice to leave your employer? This is how," a fourth shared, while others called it "disrespectful" and "savage".

Carrie's first gig on Channel Ten was Rove Live, with the host later moving on to So You Think You Can Dance Australia and then The Project.

The Australian reports Ten was surprised when the host announced she would be leaving The Project as they thought she was happy with her salary, with Carrie earning a huge $1.1million a year to host the show three nights a week between 2021 and 2022.

This put her ahead of talent such as David 'Kochie' Koch, Natalie Barr and Tracy Grimshaw.

Karl Stefanovic and Sonia Kruger, who both work full-time, are said to be making $1.5million a year.

The publication adds that Carrie was reportedly paid $1.3m and $1.4m when she hosted the show four nights a week.

Speculation about where the host is heading next is rife, with some rumours suggesting she may be taking up the 2Day FM Sydney breakfast show or perhaps A Current Affair or the Today Show alongside Karl.

TV industry veteran Robert McKnight has revealed on the TV Blackbox podcast that he believes the breakfast radio gig is the most likely option.

"We need to consider... [Carrie is] earning, what, a million dollars for her afternoon [radio] show per year? The question is, is [Carrie] priming to take over the Sydney breakfast radio show?" he said.

"[The current show is] rating like crap. I have already heard whispers she's being offered $2 million a year to do the Sydney radio show with Tommy Little."

He added, "Television doesn't have the kind of money that radio does."

Hosting breakfast radio would give Carrie free time in the evening to spend time with her family and watch The Project from the couch at home as she said she would be doing in her announcement.
