Aldi shoppers go wild for $20 'must-have' kitchen item: 'Game changer'
While some people have said it’s the ‘perfect’ Christmas gift, others have been left asking the same question about the product.
Aldi has officially jumped on the TikTok ‘carnivore diet’ trend by releasing a $20 kitchen item, which shoppers have hailed as an “absolute game changer”. The trend, which continues to take off worldwide, is a dietary approach involving only animal products such as meat, eggs and dairy and cutting out processed foods, carbs, fruits and vegetables.
Carnivore influencers claim people should eat only meat to lose weight, improve mental clarity, and have better overall health, and they have pushed others to have steak for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The viral trend, which experts have criticised for not being a balanced diet, has led to more people buying steak paraphernalia like knives and boards.

Aldi has sent shoppers wild this past week with the release of a four-piece steak serving board set for $19.99, which includes an acacia wooden board with a well to catch the juices, a stainless steel steak knife with a riveted handle, and two sauce pots. The supermarket also sells a two-piece steak serving board set without the sauce pots for the same price.
'An absolute steal'
TikTok creator Amanda (@thedaviesfam), who racked up over one million views when she shared a video showcasing the product this week, tells Yahoo Lifestyle she believes the steak board is the “perfect mix of budget-friendly and boujee”.
“I wouldn’t say this is a high-end, luxury set that’s going to last forever, but for $20 it’s an absolute steal. The quality is decent, and it’s a perfect and affordable gift or Kris Kringle for a steak lover,” she says.
“It requires more TLC to clean than a plate and would take up more space, so if you’re short on storage it might not be ideal. It’s definitely more for those who enjoy a little extra flair when it comes to presenting their meals.”
The one question shoppers are asking
While many social media users have said they will be “running to Aldi” to buy the steak serving board for themselves, others have criticised the wood product for potentially being “smelly”, “hard to clean” and “full of bacteria”.
Plenty of people have also flooded the comments on TikTok with the same sentiment: Why not just use a plate?
“What’s wrong with the half dozen plates I have in the cupboard?” one person asked, with another adding, “There’s a perfect plate I use at home. They come in packs too”.
“Or hear me out… use a plate instead of paying $20 for a piece of wood,” a third remarked, followed by someone else who said, “Let’s normalise plates”.
“If ever I get a meal on a wood block it is sent back to the chef, what’s wrong with a plate?” a different user queried, while one follower received over 100 likes with the comment: “Is this not just a chopping board?”

In response to the flurry of comments, Amanda tells Yahoo Lifestyle there’s “nothing wrong with a plate at all” but she believes a steak “just tastes better on a board”.
“There’s something about it that feels more rustic, more ‘steakhouse’, and it just adds that little extra something to the whole experience,” she details.
“Also, there’s something about sharing a juicy steak on a beautiful board that taps into that whole ‘food as an experience’ vibe. It looks great, does the job and won’t break the bank.”
