The preliminary autopsy results for One Direction singer Liam Payne, 31, have been released after the star fell from a third-floor balcony in Argentina on October 16. The singer had been staying in the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires at the time of his death.

Before the preliminary autopsy findings were revealed, authorities released a statement about Liam's cause of death, with Alberto Crescenti, head of the Buenos Aires’ public emergency medical services saying Liam fell around '14 metres', suffering 'very serious injuries incompatible with life'.

It's now been revealed that Liam died from multiple injuries sustained in the fall, which led to "internal and external haemorrhaging", and a fractured skull.

"According to the emergency medical team sent to the scene he had a fracture in the base of his skull, extremely serious injuries," Alberto Crescenti said, saying that Liam was dead when paramedics arrived on scene.

"Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life."

Police have not yet released further conclusive evidence regarding the circumstances of Liam's fall, and tests are now taking place to see if the singer had consumed drugs and alcohol. Police have said they found Liam's room in 'complete disarray', with prosecutors saying on Thursday that they were treating the case as a "suspicious death" due to evidence collected on the scene that indicated Liam was going through "some kind of substance abuse outbreak" at the time of his death.

The Argentine public prosecutor's office on Thursday said: "Everything indicates that the musician was alone" when the fall occurred.

Photos taken inside of Liam Payne's Argentina hotel room show white powder, foil, empty champagne glasses and a smashed TV, as published by Argentine media after the news of his death was announced.

A Casa Sur Hotel manager called 911 claiming they had a "guest who is overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol" before saying, "He's destroying the entire room and, well, we need you to send someone, please.”

Photos appearing to show the inside of the room that Liam was staying in, show a broken TV in the room, as well as traces of white powder, burnt aluminium foil, an empty plastic Dove soap packet, and the burnt top of a drinks can, as well as a half-drunk glass of champagne.

The Argentine public prosecutor's office said: "City police who surveyed the scene found substances inside the room that at first glance - and pending confirmation from the experts - would be narcotics and alcoholic beverages, as well as several destroyed objects and furniture."
