Letitia Wright Says Black Panther Has ‘a Lot Coming Up’ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: ‘Let’s Just Say … I Would Like to Continue With Shuri’

When will the Black Panther return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Letitia Wright took over the eponymous superhero role from her late co-star Chadwick Boseman in Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which grossed a mighty $860 million in fall 2022, but the studio has yet to put a “Black Panther 3” on its release calendar or confirm that Wright’s Shuri/Black Panther is featured in the next “Avengers” movies.

“Let’s just say … I would like to continue with Shuri,” Wright recently said on “The View” when asked about Shuri appearing in the new “Avengers” movies (“Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” is on the calendar for May 1, 2026, and “Avengers: Secret Wars” is set for May 1, 2027). “She’s one of my favorite characters. Such a blessing, honestly. I kid you not, I’m so grateful for her.”

When pressed about “Black Panther 3,” Wright answered: “There’s a lot to, a lot to — a lot coming up.”

That’s all Wright could disclose for now about her Marvel future. Back in January 2023, the actor told Variety that she thought “Black Panther 3” was “already in the works.”

Wright added at the time: “You know, we just had a terrific two years of bringing it out and everybody coming together to support it. We need a little bit of a break, we need to regroup and [director] Ryan [Coogler] needs to get back into the lab, so it’s going to take a little while, but we’re really excited for you guys to see that.”

Marvel has not yet announced “Black Panther 3.” Movies on its upcoming theatrical slate include include “Deadpool and Wolverine,” “Thunderbolts,” “Captain America: Brave New World” and “The Fantastic Four.” Superheroes such as Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man join Wright’s Black Panther in having an undetermined future in the MCU at this time. Surely, all of these characters might pop up in the next “Avengers” movies.
