Leighton Meester and Adam Brody Reveal They Have ‘De Facto Separate Toilets’ After 10 Years of Marriage
The 'Nobody Wants This' actor says having a toilet "deep with privacy" is key
Adam Brody and Leighton Meester know how to make a marriage work.
Speaking to Access Hollywood’s Mario Lopez and Kit Hoover on the red carpet at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles Sunday, Jan. 5, the couple revealed one of the key secrets to maintaining their 10-year marriage.
The conversation began after the couple was told that Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s “secret to a successful marriage” includes double-headed showers and separate toilets.
For Brody, 45, the suggestion was all too relatable.
“We have de facto separate toilets,” the O.C. alum said. “I go in the office. It’s nice. One layer farther away from the kids and one layer more deep with privacy.”
Brody and Meester, 38, tied the knot in 2014, and are parents to two children whom the couple keeps out of the public eye. They welcomed their first-born in 2015, and followed up with a second in 2020.

According to the Gossip Girl alum, she goes to whichever bathroom is available.
“I just put no thought into the toilet situation whatsoever,” she said. “Never crossed my mind.”
After discussing their toilet preferences, they moved on to Brody’s latest Netflix series, Nobody Wants This — which earned him a nomination for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series, Comedy. (The award went to Jeremy Allen White for his role in The Bear.)
Brody stars as newly single rabbi Noah in the romantic comedy alongside Kristen Bell — a single, agnostic sex podcaster named Joanne who is looking for love.
While chatting with Access Hollywood, Brody recalled how he and his wife celebrated his Golden Globe nomination.
“I received calls, but I don’t honestly remember calling anyone. We were in bed together, so that was nice. I don’t think I called anyone,” Brody said.
Meester revealed that she got to see the series — which has already been renewed for a second season — before it hit Netflix, and already had a pretty good feeling that it would do well.
“I mean, I don’t know if I’m one to say — I feel like we watched it together before it came out and I was like, ‘It works. It works. It’s so good.’ And you’re like, ‘Yeah, yeah,’ ” Meester said. “I think there’s no way to know, especially with streaming now you kind of can’t tell. And then it came out and it was like, ‘Alright.’ ”
