Yahoo Lifestyle Laura Benanti Fools Fans With Melania Trump Transformation: ‘I Screamed at All of This’
Fans were overjoyed by a surprise appearance from Laura Benanti on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert after she once again transformed into First Lady Melania Trump for a spot-on impression.
The talk show previewed her appearance with a short video of Benanti in character in her dressing room, with the caption reading, "She’s baaaaack." Benanti wore a black suit outfit similar to the one Melania wore for her divisive new White House portrait, and some fans were initially convinced that it was the actual first lady, such as one who wrote, "Why did I literally think it was Melania for a min? 😭😭."
Benanti made her official return to the show playing Melania on March 3, with host Stephen Colbert asking her questions about a variety of topics, including the documentary she reportedly sold to Amazon and her husband Donald Trump's State of the Union address.

Even before she made her appearance on the show, fans were ecstatic to see the actress return as Melania, with comments on Instagram like, "the only silver lining to all this ❤️❤️😂😂," and "I screamed at all of this and then screamed again when I heard the audio," with the latter referring to the popular audio used in the clip that was originally from the reality TV show Little Women: Atlanta.
"This. this is what’s gonna carry us through the next four years and i thank you for your service 🫡," said another fan, as more called the impression "utterly hilarious," "brilliant," and "epic."

In response to the official clip from the show, another fan declared that Benanti was "the universe’s consolation prize for those of us who have no choice but to exist in this timeline 🥹," while someone else called the performance "next level."
Benanti previously stepped into the shoes of FLOTUS six months ago during a skit timed to the Democratic National Convention.
Neither Benanti nor Colbert gave any indication on if or when the actress might be back on the show for another Melania impression, but fans have their fingers crossed that it's sometime soon.
