Long before Latto became a Grammy-nominated rapper, her younger sister, Brooklyn Nikole, had been admiring her for years.

Both raised in Clayton County, Georgia, Latto and Brooklyn grew up with their mother, Misti Pitts, and father, Shayne Stephens. The girls had a quiet life of playing sports — and their favorite board game, LIFE — before Latto got her big break on Lifetime’s The Rap Game, taking home the winning title at just 18 years old in 2016.

On 777 Radio, Latto’s interview series in partnership with Apple Music, Brooklyn shared that her older sister always had “star quality.” However, Brooklyn has never been interested in fame for herself, though she continues to support Latto’s career while forging her own path outside of the entertainment industry.

As for their relationship, Latto and Brooklyn both attest to its depth: “It’s not for fake,” they agreed on 777 Radio. In the same conversation, Latto noted that having a younger sister has influenced her desire to support other women in hip-hop, too: “I come from a one-sibling household and that’s a sister. So really, sisterhood is embedded in me."

From planning to be the first person in their family to graduate from college to founding a beauty brand, here’s everything to know about Latto’s younger sister, Brooklyn Nikole.

In February 2023, Brooklyn launched her eponymous beauty label, Beauty by Brooklyn. The brand launched exclusively with lip products — a perfect fit given the founder’s signature glossy lip.

As of summer 2024, all products on the brand’s website were out of stock, while the brand’s Instagram bio reads “Returning Soon.”

While Latto was surprised, sharing that that track is one of her personal favorites, she laughed it off.

In July 2023, Brooklyn turned 21. To commemorate the mark of adulthood, her older sister gifted her a Mercedes Benz SUV.

Wishing Brooklyn a happy birthday on social media, the Grammy-nominated rapper wrote: “Stay ambitious and humble. You truly have a heart of gold. Your compassion and loyalty is unmatched. The world is yours [as] long as I’m living! It’s always been us and it’ll forever be us! Watching you grow up is bittersweet, but it has been some of the highlights of my own life.”

When Latto asked Brooklyn whether or not she would want to pursue a career in “my lane, as far as fame,” Brooklyn quickly responded, “Immediately no.”

She added: “It’s been like that our whole lives. I’ve never been, like, center of attention or outgoing. I’m very to myself.”

While Brooklyn rejects a desire for fame, the pair have joked that Brooklyn does have a rap name. In a game of “Truth or Drink,” she revealed that her moniker would be “Big Bank Brook.”

Latto added that the pair have an unreleased duet track.

Their mother is their “everything”

On 777 Radio, Latto and Brooklyn spoke about family and their young life, with Latto declaring, “Mommy is our everything.”

Finishing each other’s sentences, Brooklyn and Latto went on to express that “another layer” of fame is how it impacts all of your relationships and the lives of those around you.

“A lot of times I feel guilty. I’m like, damn, my sister got to deal with all this bulls---, and it’s not even her career choice. My Mama got to deal with all this bulls---," Latto said.

But Brooklyn offered her older sister grace, saying that while there may be “a lot of cons” to life in the public eye, there are also “a lot of pros.”

Latto and Brooklyn have shared that they defend one another against criticism from the public.

Continuing their conversation about the costs and benefits of public life on 777 Radio, Brooklyn said: “People, of course, are going to say, ‘You wouldn’t have this without your sister.’ It’s inevitable, I’m going to always hear that because this is your career.”

Latto’s response was twofold. First, she clarified that she was not her sister's sole financial supporter. “I’m not passing around allowances ... She’s getting this on her own ... That’s Beauty by Brooklyn!” the rapper said.

Brooklyn, meanwhile, shared that she was “trying, for the longest, to deny [help]” but has since found peace with the family’s success.

“Being in school right now is hard because I’m trying to do a lot of different things,” Brooklyn shared.

She added, “I want to encourage my girlies to stay in school because education is important. I gotta remind myself of that ... I think it’s really lit to be, like, one of the first people in your family to graduate.”

Additionally, Latto has praised other entertainers like Megan Thee Stallion for completing their degrees, saying that she wishes she had applied herself in the past and wants “more” for Brooklyn.
