When news broke that an all-female Ghostbusters movie would be hitting the big screen, we could hardly contain our excitement - especially when we found out Kristen Wiig was involved.

But alas, the internet failed to embrace the amazing news, and plenty of trolls popped up vetoing the movie altogether - purely because of the female cast.
"The fact there was so much controversy because we were women was surprising to me," Wiig told the Los Angeles Times. "Some people said some really not nice things about the fact that there were women. It didn't make me mad, it just really bummed me out. We're really honoring those movies."
Wiig said the fact that people kept asking about the all-female cast implied that it was something they needed to defend.
"If [people] would watch movies or look at comedy and see how many talented, funny women are out there and have been since the beginning of time, people would stop asking that," Wiig joked.
The actress will be joined by Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones as the lead roles in the Ghostbusters reboot, but they'll also be joined by stars from the original 1984 movie including Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd.
Unfortunately, Rick Moranis declined a walk-on role in the film - but it's unclear what he thinks about the all-female cast.

"I took a break, which turned into a longer break," he says. "But I'm interested in anything that I would find interesting. I still get the occasional query about a film or television role, and as soon as one comes along that piques my interest, I'll probably do it. [But Ghostbusters] didn't appeal to me."
Poor choice Rick Moranis!
