All-Female Ghostbusters 3 Cast Chosen

Who did director Paul Feig call when he was thinking of rebooting Ghostbusters with an all-female cast?

Only four of the funniest and best actresses in Hollywood, including Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy (who starred in Bridesmaids together) along with Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon (both from Saturday Night Live).

While McCarthy is so far the only one signed on of the four, Sony is reportedly in negotiations with the other three actresses - so it seems only a matter of time before the photo below, posted by Feig to his Twitter account overnight, becomes official.

The ensemble cast is set to revive the much-loved 80s movie, which starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson.

According to reports, Murray would be more than happy to see a McCarthy/Wiig reunion - in fact, he called the casting months ago.

"Melissa [McCarthy] would be a spectacular Ghostbuster," Murray said in September. "And Kristen Wiig is so funny - God, she's funny! I like this girl Linda Cardellini a lot. And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there."

On the flipside, original cast member Ernie Hudson seemed dubious about an all-female Ghostbusters movie.

"If it has nothing to do with the other two movies, and it's all female, then why are you calling it Ghostbusters?" he asked.

"I love females. I hope that if they go that way at least they'll be funny, and if they're not funny at least hopefully it'll be sexy. I love the idea of including women, I think that's great.

"But all-female I think would be a bad idea. I don't think the fans want to see that."

Unfortunately for him, we know plenty of people (men and women) who will be lining up to see it.

In related news, while there won't be a Bridesmaids sequel anytime soon (but let's face it, how could they top that?!), The New York Times reported that Kristen Wiig and her Bridesmaids co-writer, Annie Mumolo, are working on a new film.

The upcoming project will reportedly center on "best friends who find themselves in over their heads and out of their depths, which were, perhaps, not too deep to begin with."

Sounds as clear as mud to us, but it could also accurately describe the script from Bridesmaids, which went on to become one of the most iconic wedding comedies of all time.

"We're very excited to be writing," said Wiig and Mumolo in a statement. "We will be going into a cave for months to finish. An actual cave. We found one that's nice and big. We're putting a couch in there."

Wiig and Mumolo hit the jackpot with Bridesmaids, which pulled in nearly $290 million worldwide and also earned them an Oscar nomination.
