Kmart shopper's dire warning after kitchen item disaster: 'Very dangerous'
"Why these pots are not recalled is a mystery to me."
One Kmart shopper has narrowly escaped a serious injury after the steamer they were using to cook vegetables in 'exploded' and left shards of glass everywhere — including in their husband's hand. In a Kmart decor and hacks Facebook group, a woman uploaded a series of photos showing the shattered glass lid of the steamer, and left a warning for other Kmart fans to be careful when using it.
"For anyone who has a Kmart steamer.... Please be careful. Ours exploded tonight and shards of glass also embedded into my husband's hand and all over our food," she wrote, providing photos showing the broken fragments of glass that rudely interrupted their healthy steamed vegetable mix.
In a statement to Yahoo Lifestyle, the woman confirmed her husband is OK.
"My husband is fine, a few tiny fragments of glass flicked into his hand when it exploded but he was easily able to pick them out. Luckily our two small children were not in the kitchen at the time," she said. "The steak and vegetables we were cooking were not able to be eaten so we ended up with a dinner delivered instead. I returned the item to the Kmart Castle Hill store today and I am awaiting a response."

Kmart fans share similar experiences of shattered steamer
Other Kmart fans quickly flocked to the comments to share their own stories, with some saying the same thing had happened to them.
"Same thing happened to my son. Fortunately, no one was injured," one person wrote before confirming it was the same brand. "His partner was cooking and their son had just walked past the kitchen before it exploded. Furious is an understatement of how I felt. They’d bought it that day."
"This happened to me before. I’ll never use a glass lid again," another person commented. "I use tinfoil instead, leave room on the sides for the steam to have a place to escape."
"This happened to us twice, why these pots are not recalled is a mystery to me," someone else shared.
Another person had a story of the same thing happening, except they hadn't even used it on the stovetop.
"Same thing happened with mine. Mine was just in the cupboard and we heard an explosion/shattered everywhere," they said.
And according to one user, the steamer isn't the only thing to watch out for.
"Same thing happened with the ceramic cooking tray that's apparently ovenproof," they said. "Completely cracked in half whilst cooking pork belly. Oil everywhere, all over the oven. Be careful if you have this dish."
Other shocked Kmart shoppers came through with advice on what to do with faulty products
"Email the customer service team with pictures and also send them his medical bill if he has one, they would be liable for this as it’s a faulty product," one person said. "Make sure you take it back together with photos. That's very dangerous," another commented.

"Really unfortunate I hope your husband recovers ok, I never do trust the glassware on anything that goes onto heat... but if you do just be really aware that any glass has to heat up gradually and slowly," one person advised. "If it goes straight from a cold countertop to a hot pot it’s too fast in the temperature change and causes this to happen."
