A Kmart shopper, who also is a professional chef, recently shared her success using the $15 microwave jaffle maker to cook a medium rare steak in just four-and-a-half minutes, saying she was left absolutely "amazed" at the results.

"Not a hack but when I saw the $15 microwave jaffle maker at work I had to try it straight away. And because I'm also a qualified chef, I had to try this to see how it turned out," she posted in a Facebook group. "Literally cooked a steak in 4 and a half mins, I like mine a bit under medium rare but if you want medium or well cooked I would say just cook it a little longer before resting it. Absolutely amazed and so easy to clean up."

"Chef to chef I can’t believe you microwaved a steak. But also I’m quite impressed and want to try it now haha. It even got its grill lines, girl," another chef commented.

"Please I need answers!! What cut of meat? 4 mins one side and that's it or did you flip and cook some more?" one person asked. "Any seasoning, butter on steak? Thanks in advance!!"

"I used rump but I'm guessing you could try any cut, like rib-eye steak, sirloin or even a flank iron steak. And 4 and a half minutes just in the microwave, no flipping because it grills from both sides of the iron plates on the inside and once you let it rest for a couple of minutes it keeps cooking a little and meets in the middle," the original poster answered. "I seasoned it with salt and pepper but this was also already marinated when I got it from the shops so I didn't use oil or butter. But if I was to cook it with just seasoning I'm guessing you could use butter, spray oil etc especially a bit of butter for the extra grill and flavour."

It's not the first time Kmart fans have expressed their delight at the $15 item, with last year one converted fan taking to the Kmart Facebook group to share they had used their toastie maker to cook rissoles in under five minutes.

"I decided to use mine to cook my chicken rissoles and they taste great, two minutes each side," the poster shared.

Others said they had used the toastie to make everything from cookies and pastries, to bacon and eggs.

"I've bought a few of these for my teen boys and they've been experimenting all week with different things from eggs and bacon, to little chicken tenders, all cooked beautifully I might add," one mum shared, with someone else saying, "I'm loving everyone's uses for this handy little toastie thing. Definitely worth packing a set for travel."
