Kmart shopper turns $1.50 tea towels into 'amazing' dress
A crafty Kmart shopper has left her fellow social media users stunned after sharing a dress she’d made solely out of $1.50 tea towels from the discount retailer.
Avid sewer Selika, from Melbourne, VIC, wowed TikTokers with a video showing how she constructed the pretty fit-and-flare frock from 11 cotton cockatoo print tea towels that she picked up from Kmart.
“I just love the prints and I was sure that I could make a beautiful dress from it,” she tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
After carefully unpicking the seams on each of the tea towels, Selika used the ‘Rosa’ dress pattern by Rosery Apparel to whip up the one-of-a-kind Spring-ready garment on her sewing machine.
To make the dress extra unique, Selika says she added her own puffy sleeves during the process which all-in-all took her about seven to eight hours.

“This is amazing!! Great job, so creative,” wrote one Instagrammer.
“Ps if I made that out of tea towels it would look like a tea towel dress,” another joked after giving the dress a thumbs-up emoji.
One fan was so inspired they decided to head out to snap up some tea towels right away.
“Oh my gosh! So cute!!! I’m going to Kmart to go get some,” they declared.
