Kmart $8 item parents are snapping up: 'I’m obsessed'

We all want our kids to grow up with good role models and a sense of right and wrong but how early is too early to introduce them to some powerful international real-life heroes?

The critically acclaimed Little People, BIG DREAMS series bring to life role models from all walks of life – from scientists, sports stars and activists to artists, musicians and politician – for kids to enjoy.

Some favourites include Mahatma Gandhi, Frida Khalo, Greta Thunberg and even our very own Evonne Goolagong.

Now you can grab copies for your child's bookshelf as Kmart is stocking them for just $8.

"Discover the life of Evonne Goolagong, the inspiring indigenous Australian tennis player," Kmart explains on their website.

"Evonne grew up on a hot, dusty farm in Australia. She was the third of eight children, and descendant of the Wurundjeri people, who have lived on the land for more than 60,000 years. Her talent for tennis was discovered at a local tennis club, and before she knew it, the girl dreaming about the place called 'Wimbledon' was playing on centre court."

Along with the quirky and colourful illustrations, the books include biographical timelines, historical photos and a detailed profile including facts about the life of the person they're profiling.

And mums are loving giving their children books about such inspirational real-life characters.

"Attention mums. Have you seen these amazing books? I’m obsessed!" Perth mum Jade aka missus_jef wrote on Instagram.

"Children’s books that teach kids about historical/influential public figures. I get to learn too! I had to stop myself or I would have taken the whole lot. Books stocked at @kmartaus (bloody love that place!)"

And she wasn't the only one that was raving about them. "That’s awesome! I’ve not seen these before. Good ol Kmart coming through for the win yet again" bubwise.au answered.

"Have seen these in the shops and it’s such a fab idea!" agreed kukula_wellness.

The books, written by Spanish author Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara, have sold almost four million copies worldwide and been translated into 20 languages and have, of course, been inspiring children for their International Book Week dress-up for some time.

"Children love to read true stories about other children — like them — achieving great things. It gives them the strength and the courage to believe in themselves," author Maria Isabel explains. "The real message behind Little People, Big Dreams is that we can all achieve our dreams, as long as they’re really ours and not imposed by others."

Wow! Now excuse me while I rush out and buy the whole series...
