Kelly Ripa Shares Heartwarming Update on Beloved Family Member

Kelly Ripa is giving fans an update on her family's senior dog, Chewie.

After getting emotional during a recent episode of Live with Kelly and Mark over her 17-year-old dog's deteriorating health, Ripa, 54, had a positive update to share during the show's latest broadcast.

While sitting down with husband and co-host Mark Consuelos during the Wednesday, Jan. 29 episode of Live, Ripa revealed that Chewie "did something extraordinary" the night before.

"It's going to sound like not a big deal, but if you're a pet owner, you know, you know," she said, before explaining, "She lifted her own crotch."

"You understand what I'm saying, this is a massive thing," the All My Children alum continued, while noting that Chewie "has not done that in weeks."

"She started self-cleaning, and then she curled up next to me and cuddled and started doing her thing where she edges me off the bed little by little all night, so I wind up sort of falling off the bed. But I didn't care because it had been so long that she acted like herself," Ripa said.

Consuelos, 53, then chimed in to say that he has also been trying to soak in every moment with Chewie lately, "because I know it's fleeting."

Just earlier this month, Ripa and Consuelos asked their fans for advice on caring for a senior dog, and how to know when the right time is to say goodbye.

Ripa became visibly emotional during the conversation, stating, "She's the best dog."

"And she came to us at a time when we had three young kids. I always said she was like my fourth kid but I treated her like a dog," she continued, while calling the entire situation "very difficult."

In addition to their beloved pet, Ripa and Consuelos are also parents to three human children: sons Michael, 27, and Joaquin, 21, and daughter Lola, 23.
