Katie Holmes Just Wore the Biggest Fall Shoe Trend in an Unexpected Color
It's giving upscale theater kid.
It’s no secret Katie Holmes is partial to a boxy ballet slipper, whether she’s elevating a pair of mom jeans or toning down a loud luxury statement piece. And on Tuesday afternoon, the Dawson’s Creek alum reached for this fall's hottest trending shoe once again as she demonstrated the art of an effortless street style look. This time, Holmes gave her ballet flats the winter treatment, pairing mustard yellow Mary Jane slippers with a colorful palette of jewel tones.
While heading to a performance of Our Town at the Barrymore Theatre, Holmes's latest fashion choice included statement pieces with a few casual basics. She dressed down her dramatic ankle-length amethyst purple silk skirt by styling it with an oversized denim shirt layered over an eggplant-hued v-neck knit sweater and simple black T-shirt. Holmes stuck with festive jewel tones for her accessories, swapping out her go-to quiet luxury-coded caramel Khaite tote bag for a deep red handbag that was a shade away from burgundy.
Perhaps the easiest part of her outfit to recreate is her choice of footwear that is one of fall's biggest trends: Mary-Jane flats. The shoes were constructed of shiny velvet fabric in an unexpected mustard color.
While Holmes’s outfit was holiday-party ready, she ditched a coat entirely, just relying on the aforementioned jean jacket for warmth. The actress also clutched a water bottle and a festive Starbucks holiday drink in each hand as she headed to the theater. The First Daughter star leaned into fresh-faced glam for her outing, wearing a swipe of pink gloss and her light brown hair down natural parted waves.
