Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte Coordinate in Green and Blue Tartan Patterns for Christmas Day Service With the British Royal Family

Kate Middleton, Princess Charlotte and more members of the British royal family came together for Christmas Day services in Sandringham, Norfolk, on Wednesday to celebrate the holiday. The Prince and Princess of Wales brought their three children to greet well-wishers for the morning’s festivities.

For the special holiday occasion, Middleton and her nine-year-old daughter coordinated their looks in festive hues of green and blue. The Princess of Wales wore a vibrant forest green coat courtesy of Alexander McQueen — one of the royal’s go-to designers.

The Princess of Wales coordinated her coat to her Meribel Beret, which was designed by Gina Foster. Middleton also wore a pair of black boots by Gianvito Rossi, which complemented her black gloves. The finishing touch of Kate’s look was a blue and green tartan scarf, which served as the centerpiece on which Princess Charlotte’s complementary holiday sartorial statement was based.

Princess Charlotte’s attire for the holiday featured a blue and green tartan coat with long sleeves, a black collar and sharp lapels. The coat also included three black buttons. Princess Charlotte’s Christmas Day ensemble continued the blue and green color motif with blue tights. The look was capped off with a pair of black, patent leather ballet flats.

When it comes to the British royal family’s sartorial approach to the holidays, coordinated ensembles between certain members are nothing new. For the Easter holiday in April 2023, Princess Charlotte and her mother wore complementary looks evocative of the springtime season.

Princess Charlotte wore a blue floral-print dress with a gathered skirt and puff sleeves designed by Rachel Riley. As for the Princess of Wales’ attire, Middleton wore a bespoke royal blue coat dress courtesy of Catherine Walker, along with a matching hat by Lock & Co.

Middleton and Princess Charlotte’s respective 2024 Christmas Day attire not only served as ideal coordinated pieces, they also highlighted a color combination — blue and green — rarely utilized during the holiday season. Though green and red still have their place during yuletide celebrations, the blue and green combination was a refreshing take on holiday colorways and coordinated attire.
