Kate Middleton and Princess CharlottePrince William and Kate Middleton spoke about weekends with sons Prince George and Prince Louis recently—specifically how “we go from one competition to the next,” William said of his sons’ rugby matches—but Kate recently opened up about daughter Princess Charlotte, too.
While at the Irish Guards’ St. Patrick’s Day parade on March 17, the Princess of Wales made her first solo appearance as Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment, and was greeted by Major General Sir Chris Ghika and Lt. Col. Ben Irwin-Clark upon her arrival. Per Hello!, Irwin-Clark’s wife Carice spoke with Kate about Charlotte, telling the future queen, “We so often see you at matches, because our girls are always playing each other.” She added of her daughter and Charlotte—who attend rival schools—“I think there’s stiff competition.”

Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte on June 15, 2024Like her brothers (and her parents!), Charlotte is quite athletic, and Kate responded to Carice, “I was just saying, they’re doing so much, sporting events.” To this, Carice replied, “Now it’s getting a bit warmer, it’s a bit nicer for a spectator.”
In addition to playing sports, both George and Charlotte have joined their parents at sporting events, with Charlotte making a particularly poignant appearance alongside her mother Kate and her aunt Pippa Middleton at Wimbledon last July, as Kate continued her cancer treatment.

Princess Charlotte and Kate Middleton at Wimbledon on July 14, 2024While Charlotte plays a variety of sports, she, like her late grandmother Princess Diana, has a knack for dance. “My daughter Charlotte likes dancing,” Kate said of Charlotte during an outing in Lancaster in 2023.
“She loves ballet and tap,” she added.
The multitalented 9-year-old is also a “budding star” in soccer, dad William said (per People), and according to The Daily Mail, Kate has said her daughter “spends most of her time upside-down, doing handstands and cartwheels,” and Charlotte herself has apparently previously said that, while she is trying lots of different sports, “It’s gymnastics that I like.”
