Mum, 57, and lookalike daughter, 20, become Instagram sensations
They say life really begins when you hit fifty, and this mum is proving that statement to be true, saying she feels better in her 50s than she has her whole life.
Kasha Grimes, a 57-year-old mother-of-two from Gloucestershire, has become an internet sensation after ditching her mid-life crisis and embracing her 50s with open arms.
The glamorous mother, who goes by the name Mumma Grimes, has nearly 19,000 followers on Instagram, where she shows off her incredible fashion, flawless makeup and selfies with her young daughters, who could pass for her sister.
Kasha’s daughter, 20-year-old Misha Grimes, who has over 95,000 followers on Instagram, is the one who kickstarted Kasha’s foray into the world of social media.
In a YouTube video on her ‘NiftyAfterFifty’ channel titled: ‘How To Look 10 Years Younger By A 57 Year Old, Kasha explains how she was stuck in a rut when she first entered her 50s and ‘didn’t like what she saw in the mirror’.
“I gave up and I wore leggings and I wore flowy comfortable dresses,” Kasha said.
“I wasn’t at my fittest because I was concentrating on bringing up those little monkeys. So I just did not feel fashionable.”
Her daughter, Misha, was the one who ‘came to her rescue’, taking her mum to the side and telling her that she needed to start taking care of herself.
“She said: ‘Mum for goodness sake, you look so old. You have not been taking care of yourself. You have forgotten about the most important person in your life and that’s you’,” Kasha said.
Kasha then ‘saw a glimmer of hope’ and entered ‘middle age with a bang’.
“I got my mojo back but, while I did adjust my speed to take into account the age of my engine and the condition of my bodywork, there was no stopping me in my mad endeavours for doing brilliant but unpredictable things that were deemed inappropriate for the middle aged,” she said on her YouTube bio.
“I am glad to say that 7 years on and my mission has been accomplished. I feel better than I did in my 30s and 40s.
“There is a lot to be said for the inner confidence, wisdom and experience that you gain as you age. Gravity may not be on our side but life experience gives you an edge; it guides you through life’s ups and downs.”
Since then, Kasha has been a beacon of inspiration for women over 50, winning the ‘World's Perfect Classic Woman’ and embarking on a successful YouTube venture with her daughter.
On her channel, Kasha talks about body positivity, shows her followers how she styles her hair and does her makeup, and talks about being a mum to her daughters.
She also prides herself on her transparency and has a video all about botox and fillers, where she explains her first experience with botox was at the age of 45 around the ‘crows feet area’ of her eyes.
That was it for about five years until she got botox between her brows, a lift on her forehead and filler in her laughter lines around her mouth, which she claims ‘took years off her’.
“I started having it done just once a year and then I progressed to twice a year, which is where I’m at now” she said in her YouTube video.
She continues to have filler in her laughter lines and at the top of her cheeks, ‘to just lift that are a tiny little bit’ but has never gone under the knife.
She’s also had two ‘strong’ chemical peels, which have been her most favourite treatments to date, and threading around her face which she says ‘stimulates the collagen’.
While she said they were painful, ‘but no more than giving birth’, they transformed her under eye area.
Kasha said she went on the botox, peel, thread and filler journey after ‘investigating’ it and researching it thoroughly and understood what the risks were.
