Karl Stefanovic doesn't think Steve 'would have liked' Bindi Irwin's boyfriend
It’s clear Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell are totally in love, but during an appearance on Today on Thursday, Karl Stefanovic seemed to have a bone to pick with the couple.
The pair were on the Nine Network breakfast show to shed light on Steve Irwin Day, and pay tribute to the late Crocodile Hunter.
But Karl had other things in mind to discuss.
Karl weighs in on Bindi’s relationship
“Chandler, I don’t want to be uncharitable, but I’m not sure Steve would have liked you,” Karl said. “I’m not sure Steve would have liked anyone going out with his daughter.”
However, the 44-year-old – who is set to marry Jasmine Yarbrough next month – appeared to be joking.
“You can imagine what he would have said, ‘Crikey, if you want to go out with Bindi, you have to go wrestle a komodo’ or something,” Karl added, in a jovial tone. “Just that sheer legacy and that sheer manliness, it’s a lot to live up to.”
Chandler, 22, wasn’t bothered by Karl’s statement, laughing in response.
“Definitely,” he said. “And it definitely is an honour just to be able to continue his legacy and I’m the luckiest guy in the world.”
Bindi and Chandler’s relationship
Bindi, 20, and Chandler have been together for four years, after meeting in 2013 when the American enjoyed a tour of Australia Zoo. But their romance blossomed when they bonded through letters they wrote to keep in touch.

Since then Chandler has well and truly become a part of the Irwin family, helping Bindi, her mum Terri and brother Robert Irwin continue their mission to make sure Steve’s legacy lives on.
Steve tragically passed away at 44-years-old in 2006, after being stung by a stingray while filming a documentary in Queensland.
