‘Kaos’ Star Nabhaan Rizwan and ‘Doctor Foster’s’ Suranne Jones Join Aimee Lou Wood in BBC Rom-Com ‘Film Club’

“Kaos” star Nabhaan Rizwan has set his next project following the cancellation of the Greek mythology-inspired Netflix series.

He has joined the cast of upcoming BBC rom-com drama “Film Club” alongside “Doctor Foster” lead Suranne Jones. The show follows members of a film club as they find solace in their shared passion of cinema every week until one day some big news shakes things up.

“Sex Education” star Aimee Lou Wood was previously announced as the series lead Evie, who is recovering from a low period with the help of the club. Wood co-wrote the series alongside Ralph Davis (“House of the Dragon”), who will also appear in the show as Film Club newcomer Dominic. Adam Long (“Happy Valley”) and Liv Hill (“The Serpent Queen”) also join as Evie’s boyfriend Josh and her sister Izzie, respectively.

Rizwan will play Noa in the show, a close friend of Evie’s and another devoted member of Film Club. Jones will play Evie’s eccentric mother.

“Noa’s got big news. A dream job is taking him across the other side of the country, which means that all of this is ending,” reads the logline. “That reality is hitting. That they’re going to be forced to consider for the first time they might be more than just friends. Neither of them are the best when it comes to emotions but this time those emotions might be impossible to ignore.”

The show, commissioned by BBC drama director Lindsay Salt and youth audience controller for BBC Three Fiona Campbell, has begun shooting in Manchester, U.K. It is set to air next year on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three in the U.K. and on ZDFneo in Germany at a later date.

Anna Jordan (“One Day”) joins Wood and Davis as part of the writing team for episode four.

The series is produced by Gaumont UK with the support of ZDFneo. Stella Merz (“Gentleman Jack”) produces and Catherine Morshead (“Daddy Issues”) directs.

Wood exec produces alongside Alison Jackson and Jamie Jackson for Gaumont, and Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC.

Fremantle is handling global sales.
