Kanye West reveals autism diagnosis after Bianca Censori's 'invisible' dress controversy
Kanye West was previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder, however, his wife Bianca Censori encouraged him to seek another opinion.
Kanye West, who now goes by Ye, has opened up about being diagnosed with autism after his Australian wife Bianca Censori encouraged him to seek another opinion after initially receiving a bipolar disorder diagnosis in 2016. The rapper's mental health battle has been a public one and he has previously said he believed he was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Speaking on the Download podcast with host Justin Laboy on Tuesday, Ye said, "I went to this doctor...My wife took me to do that because she said, 'Something about your personality doesn't feel like it's bipolar, I've seen bipolar before...' She's educated. And I've come to find that it's really a case of autism that I have."

The 'Runaway' hitmaker said that the diagnosis has helped him to better understand himself.
"Autism takes you to a Rain Man thing," he said, referencing the Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman film about a man who discovers he has a brother with autism. "Where you're like, 'Oh man, I'm gonna wear this Trump hat, because I just like Trump in general,' and when people tell you to not do it, you just get on that one point. And that's my problem.
"When fans tell me to do my album a certain way, I'll do it the opposite way... Like, you can't tell me [what to do]."
The rapper said, "I haven't taken the medication since I found out that bipolar wasn't the right diagnosis."
"It's finding stuff that doesn't block the creativity, obviously that's what I bring to the world. It's worth the ramp-up, as long as y'all get the creativity."
After receiving the correct diagnosis, Ye says he can identify when an episode is coming on, "I watch for it beforehand, but other times it was just like, if you get to the point where it goes, you’re gonna stay in that position for a while. It might go for three days, four days a week."
"A lot of what was sending me into the episodes... the constant feeling of not being in control spun me out of control."
Bianca Censori's naked dress controversy at the Grammys
Kanye's announcement comes days after Bianca Censori wore what he has dubbed as "the invisible dress" to the Grammys on Sunday.
The 'outfit' was a sheer mesh dress, which she paired with nothing at all. To be fair, she did wear a fur coat as she entered the red carpet, but she dropped it soon after to show off her birthday suit.
Kanye was slammed for the stunt, with many social media users believing he forced her to wear the outfit.
"I would be so embarrassed if you were my father. Think wisely," one person wrote.
"The word disgusting is not enough," another added.
"It's getting hard defending you," a third wrote.

Many others suggested he should have worn the dress if rumours he forced her to wear it were true.
Kanye, however, loved that everyone was talking about his wife, taking to Instagram on Tuesday to share a graph that showed the phrase "Bianca Censori Grammys" was Googled more times than "Grammy winners 2025".
In another Instagram Story, he shared a video of Bianca wearing a sheer bodysuit from his brand YZY, writing, "The most Googled person on earth wearing YZY women's."
His followers hit back at his comments, with one person writing, "Your wife is the most googled because the world is CONCERNED FOR HER. That’s nothing to boast about."
"Kanye you’re bragging about your 'wife' being the most googled person," another added. "Not for good reason. Showing around your naked wife to the whole world, including kids is nothing to be proud about. I used to love you man."
