Kaitlyn Dever Plays a Wellness Guru Who Fakes Cancer in Trailer for Netflix’s Apple Cider Vinegar
Kaitlyn Dever is returning to Netflix to star in a series based on a true story — well, kind of a true story.
Dever (Unbelievable, Dopesick) plays infamous Australian wellness guru Belle Gibson, who admitted to faking cancer to boost her social media following, in Apple Cider Vinegar, which will debut Thursday, Feb. 6, the streamer announced on Tuesday. Netflix has also released a new trailer for the limited series, which you can watch below.

In it, Dever’s Belle is a successful and beloved advocate for natural and alternative medicine, gloating that her book was better reviewed than that of her fellow wellness influencer Milla, played by Fear the Walking Dead’s Alycia Debnam-Carey. But when Milla is diagnosed with brain cancer, Belle’s competitive nature flares up — and suddenly, she declares she has multiple cancers, too, and is tackling them with natural cures. While others suspect she’s faking it, including a journalist played by The Bold Type’s Aisha Dee, Belle insists: “You’d have to be an actual sociopath to do that, and I am not!” (She’s an empath, you guys.)
Along with Dever, Debnam-Carey and Dee, the cast includes Tilda Cobham-Hervey (The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart), Ashley Zukerman (Succession) and Mark Coles Smith (Savage River). Samantha Strauss (Nine Perfect Strangers) serves as series creator and co-writer.
