Kacey Breaks Her Silence on That Viral Reaction to Bey's Grammys Win

There were *so* many buzzy moments at the 2025 GrammysTaylor and Cynthia sharing a seat! Sabrina and Olivia having a private chat! Babyface getting majorly snubbed for Chappell!—that you might have missed Kacey Musgraves's seemingly "pissed" reaction to Beyoncé's history Grammys win for Best Country Album.

To recap: Both Kacey and Bey were up for the award, and Kacey's Deeper Well ended up losing out to Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter. The win made history, since Bey is the first Black woman to win the award—but when the cameras panned to the audience, Kacey looked...less than pleased for her fellow nominee.

However! Kacey is here to clear the air on the viral clip. As a rep for Kacey told E! News on February 3, a day after ceremony, "It’s a sensationalistic false narrative meant to pit two talented female artists against each other. There was simply no scowl or expression made." Case closed!

Kacey (who, btw, took home the award for Best Country Song on February 2 for "The Architect") has previously shared her thoughts on newcomers—like Beyoncé!—joining the country space. “The more the fucking merrier,” she told The Cut in March 2024. “I don’t really care. It doesn’t affect what I’m doing. It doesn’t affect me. I’ve always been just doing my own thing. It’s just fun to watch.”

During a separate interview that month with the Nashville Scene, Kacey spoke about her desire to play with and gradually expand the country genre. "It’s just fun for me to think without fences," she said. "I think I’ll always have things about my music that have a common thread. I mean, I’m from Texas—I don’t think I could shake some of the country aspects even if I really wanted to. But it’s really fun to have total creative freedom to make whatever feels good."

Beyoncé expressed a similar sentiment during her acceptance speech for Best Country Album, noting, " I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists, and I just wanna encourage people to do what they’re passionate about and to stay persistent."

Bottom line: There's room in country for everyone!!
