Julia Morris details 'super sad' breakdown of her marriage: 'Not living like this'

Julia said there comes a time when 'the other person starts to become quite a pest'.

She’s known for making Australians laugh but comedian and host Julia Morris has opened up about the “super sad” breakdown of her marriage to Dan Thomas.

The former couple, who met in the early 2000s and wed in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve 2005, decided to call it quits in 2021 after 16 years of marriage.

The 54-year-old I’m a Celebrity host told the Australian Women’s Weekly that it got to the point where they weren’t setting a positive example for their two daughters, Ruby, 16, and Sophie, 14.

“But there’s a lot of layers happening at the same time. I’m famous for saying I feel like every year we’re going to break up,” she said.

“But it definitely gets to that same point, which is that we are just not necessarily growing in the same direction. And then once you’ve got that in your headspace, the other person starts to become quite a pest.

“I think that’s where patience starts to wear down to, ‘I’m not living like this. How is this an example for my girls that this is an OK life to lead? No thanks.”

Speaking on the Kyle and Jackie O Show in November last year, Julia said there wasn’t a very big chance we’d see her dating anytime soon.

“Do you know what? I think I'll shut up shop. I'm done with roots,” she said.

“Before I got married, look, I had a go. Don’t worry. It’s not like I’m missing out now I’m back out there. I’m not back out there.”

She echoed those sentiments in an interview on the Fitzy and Wippa Show, saying: "It's been 20 years since I was a single lady," she said at the time.

"And I don't mean going out and picking up. How do you respond to being a single person? I actually think I'm very good at being married."
