Julia Garner coyly comments on “Fantastic Four” casting, assumes Silver Surfer 'is gonna be really shiny' (exclusive)
The "Ozark" star commented on her role while promoting "Wolf Man."
The literal silver lining of The Fantastic Four: First Steps is Julia Garner.
The Ozark and Inventing Anna Emmy winner will play the Silver Surfer in Marvel's upcoming film. In one of her first times addressing the role, the actress coyly remarked on what she assumes she'll look like in character.
"I can't really speak a lot about that project," Garner tells Entertainment Weekly during an interview pegged to Wolf Man (in theaters Jan. 17). "All I can just say is that I'm very lucky to have a part in that project, and the Fantastic Four are fantastic. They are so amazing in this. I'm very excited for people to see them. I'm assuming that this Silver Surfer is gonna be really shiny like in the other previous ones and the comic books. So, yeah, that's all I'm gonna say."

Garner will appear alongside Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus. She confirms this is the first time Marvel courted her for a role in their still-growing cinematic universe.
"I feel like a lot of it has to do with casting and what feels right," she says on landing the part, "but that's not just Marvel; that's any project. You need to connect with the character."
The Fantastic Four: First Steps will not be another origin story for "Marvel's First Family" since we have already seen that a couple of times on screen. Set in a retro-futuristic world inspired by the 1960s, the film sees these heroes defend Earth against the world-devouring space god Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer.

Matt Shakman (WandaVision) directs The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which will hit theaters on July 25 this year.
"One of the things we decided early on was not to do an origin story," Shakman previously told EW. "One of the ways we're making it our own thing is we're not telling the story of them going up and being changed and starting our story [there]. There's a lot of well-known narrative that leads into that moment, right? And then you're making up your new story starting basically at the end of the first act, and we thought, 'Well, let's just start this thing off on a completely new foot.' So we are beginning after that."
