Josh Hartnett recalls filming “Pearl Harbor” sex scene with Kate Beckinsale in front of her boyfriend
"That was super embarrassing,” the actor confessed. “Thanks, Kate!”
Josh Hartnett is sharing how Kate Beckinsale landed him in the trenches during on one steamy Pearl Harbor scene.
In a recent Elle video, the Trap actor was asked to recall his most embarrassing on set moment – and he didn’t hesitate to reveal that it happened while working with Beckinsale on the Michael Bay-directed war drama.
“One of my most embarrassing is the parachute scene from Pearl Harbor with Kate Beckinsale where we are making love in the parachute for some reason?” He recalled. “She decided to bring her one-year-old daughter and her boyfriend to set for the first time that day.”

While Hartnett did not identify Beckinsale’s boyfriend, she dated actor Michael Sheen from 1995 until 2003. The pair also welcomed a daughter, Lily Sheen, in 1999, which would’ve made her about a year old when they shot the 2001 film.
Having Beckinsale’s family present for their sex scene, naturally, made for one very uncomfortable experience for Hartnett. “I felt terrible the whole day. That was super embarrassing,” he confessed. “Thanks, Kate!”
Hartnett starred as Danny, a combat pilot who is caught in a love triangle with his childhood best friend Rafe over the affections of nurse Evelyn Johnson (Beckinsale) amid the backdrop of World War II. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Danny and Rafe embark on a series of high-stakes missions that change the trio's lives forever.

Despite receiving negative reviews from critics — former Entertainment Weekly critic Owen Gleiberman called it "the squarest event movie in years" at the time — Pearl Harbor was a summer box office success and became the sixth-highest grossing film of 2001. It was also nominated for four Oscars, taking home the award for Best Sound Editing.
