JoJo Siwa Appreciates 'Nods' Dance Moms Reboot Made to the OG Show but She Still Has 1 'Problem' with It
The "Karma" singer also opened up about the most important lesson she's learned from her former dance teacher, Abby Lee Miller
JoJo Siwa can appreciate the new Dance Moms show, but there were still moments she wasn't entirely happy with.
While speaking at Rhode Island Comic Con's JoJo Siwa Live panel on Nov. 1, moderated by PEOPLE's Dory Jackson, the 21-year-old "Karma" singer weighed in on Hulu's Dance Moms: A New Era reboot and the problems she found while watching the show.
"I appreciate that the Dance Moms: A New Era, they gave nods to the original Dance Moms and they gave nods to Abby [Lee Miller]," she began, adding how the new dance coach Glo Hampton acknowledged that Miller, 59, created the show's "pyramid" format. "I appreciated that they didn't play dumb, essentially thinking Dance Moms wasn't a thing before them."
Though she thought the kids and their moms "were cool," Siwa — who joined the OG series in 2015 for season 5 — admitted she didn't want to be "too shady" in her critiques of the show. Despite her initial hesitation, the Nickelodeon alum got candid about aspects that didn't sit right with her.
"Apparently, I'm going to be shady," she joked before adding, "I'm very territorial of Dance Moms, and I know Dance Moms: A New Era kind of screwed over some people, and I know that it wasn't appreciated."
"I don't think that's very cool," she continued without specifying who was impacted. "However, I was thoroughly entertained by the show. I watched it."

While Siwa's had her share of good and bad experiences as a child dancer on the original Lifetime show, the singer has been long been vocal of her love for the series and Miller.
"This is crazy, but when Abby would yell at me, I'd be like, 'she's yelling at me!'" she told fans at the panel. "It's like when you have that thing that's not good for you, but you kind of like it anyways."
"It's like a guilty pleasure," she explained. "I was so honored that this woman that I've respected for so long was yelling at me. That's psycho. That's so crazy for me to say that."

In terms of the most important lessons she's learned from the notorious teacher, Siwa said Miller taught her how to "sit at a table with my legs, a napkin on my lap, my fork on the left, and my knife and spoon on the right."
"That girl is in her table manners," she added of Miller. "I'm not kidding. I've dated a couple girls where I've told them, you need to go to Abby Lee's table manners school because yeah, that girl, she will get you your table manners."
Dance Moms can be streamed on Prime Video, Disney+ and Tubi, while Dance Moms: A New Era is available on Hulu.
