Can you imagine a green-haired John Stamos stealing everyone's Christmas presents? The actor would like you to think that only heavy-duty prosthetics got in the way.

Stamos recently appeared on season 2 of 'Tis the Grinch Holiday Podcast, a podcast in which Saturday Night Live star James Austin Johnson portrays the Grinch and humorously interviews guests about various holiday-related topics. When Stamos appeared in the latest episode, released Dec. 23, he joked that he once auditioned to play Dr. Seuss' green mischief-maker himself.

"Here's an interesting fact you don't know about me," Stamos told Johnson's Grinch. "I was originally going to play you in the movie that Jim Carrey got. Did you know that? I went to the makeup test. I was allergic to the prosthetics."

In case it's unclear, Stamos' reps confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that this statement was a joke.

But what's not a joke is how many prosthetics Carrey had to wear during the production of 2000's How the Grinch Stole Christmas, still the only live-action adaptation of Dr. Seuss' classic holiday tale. Rick Baker, the legendary makeup artist who oversaw Carrey's Grinch look, told EW in 2000 that it took "two and a half hours" to apply every time.

That wasn't always easy on the star, who also told EW at the time that two weeks into production, he "was having a lot of trouble with the Grinch suit, so they brought a guy in who actually teaches people how to handle torture, and he gave me a couple of tips. You just forget [the pain]. Sitting around in that suit was not too fun, but performing in it was amazing."

All that work paid off: How the Grinch Stole Christmas won an Oscar for Best Makeup — one of seven that Baker has won over the years, a record in the category. The movie also earned over $300 million at the box office, making it the sixth-highest-grossing film of the year.

In response to Stamos' fantasy, Johnson's Grinch joked that he had been a consultant on director Ron Howard's film.

"They brought me in a couple of days to do some consulting," Johnson joked. "I was a little triggered walking around the set just because it's like when they build an exact replica of your neighborhood, and you're walking around, but you know that you're on a sound stage in freaking Burbank. It's like, it's a little eerie."

When Stamos asked the Grinch if he had ever visited the Whoville set in Universal Studios, Johnson replied, "Buddy, you couldn't pay me to go over there. I don't know if you know that much about me, but me and the Who's, you know, we got a little bit of a thing."
