John Krasinski is PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive 2024 — and wife Emily Blunt already has big plans

Krasinski says Blunt was "very excited" when she heard the big news: "There was a lot of joy involved in me telling her."

No, this isn't a Jim Halpert prank special — John Krasinski is PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive 2024!

The Office and Jack Ryan star told the outlet he didn't really know what to think when he got the news. “Just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts,” he said. “Other than maybe I’m being punked. That’s not how I wake up, thinking, 'Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?' And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me.”

One person who did know what to think, though, was Krasinski's wife of 14 years, fellow Hollywood star Emily Blunt. Krasinski told PEOPLE Blunt was "very excited" to hear the news, and "there was a lot of joy involved in me telling her.”

Apparently, the actress joked that she would wallpaper their Brooklyn home with the magazine cover if her husband ever received the honor. "Do we have that on camera? Because that’s like a binding contract, I think," he joked. “My children will love that, it won’t be weird at all.” (Krasinski and Blunt share two daughters: Hazel, 10, and Violet, 8.)

On a more serious note, Krasinski told the outlet he appreciates his life with Blunt. “It’s that beautiful thing where when you’re married to someone, you’re constantly learning and changing and evolving,” he said. “And I’m so lucky to go through all that with her.”

In addition to his much-beloved role as Jim on The Office, and the starring role in Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series, Krasinski also received acclaim for directing, co-writing, and starring in 2018's horror film A Quiet Place. That movie, which also starred Blunt, spawned a sequel, which he also directed and co-wrote, and a prequel, A Quiet Place: Day One, which he produced.

Earlier this year, Krasinski also directed, wrote, produced, and starred in Paramount's family dramedy, IF. He next stars with Natalie Portman in the action heist film Fountain of Youth.

Krasinski joins the esteemed ranks of fellow Hollywood stars who have taken up the mantle of Sexiest Man Alive since the annual honor was first given in 1985. Since 2014, the honor has gone to Chris Hemsworth, David Beckham, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Blake Shelton, Idris Elba, John Legend, Michael B. Jordan, Paul Rudd, Chris Evans, and last year's recipient Patrick Dempsey.

But, true to form, Krasinski cracked a joke when asked if his new, wife-approved title will change anything about their life together. “I think it’s going to make me do more household chores,” he quipped. “After this comes out, she’ll be like, ‘All right, that means you’re going to really earn it here at home.’”
