Nobody stop Jim Carrey — he's open to making a sequel to The Mask!

The 62-year-old actor isn't ruling out the possibility of returning as Stanley Ipkiss/The Mask in a potential follow-up to his hit 1994 comedy, in which he starred opposite Cameron Diaz.

Asked by ComicBook.com about what it would take for him to do a sequel, Carrey said, "Oh gosh, you know, it has to be the right idea. "If somebody had the right idea, I guess ... "

Directed by Chuck Russell, The Mask follows bank teller Stanley (Carrey), who finds a magical wooden mask that turns him into the titular green-faced trickster with the ability to shapeshift and transform his surroundings.

Using his powers, Stanley must save his love interest Tina Carlyle (Diaz, 52) from mafioso Dorian Tyrell (Peter Greene) while evading law enforcement.

Back in 2022, while promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Carrey said he was planning on retiring from his acting career.

Of making the soon-to-be-released Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the actor told the Associated Press with a smile at the film's U.K. premiere in London on Tuesday, Dec. 10, "I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. And, you know, it's just ... I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly."

But as he clarified in his recent interview with ComicBook.com, "It’s not really about the money. I joke about the money … but I never know. You can’t be definite about these things."

"I said I’d like to retire, but I think I was talking more about power-resting. Because as soon as a good idea comes your way, or a group of people that you really enjoyed working with and stuff, it just — things tend to change," Carrey added.

And The Mask isn't the only iconic movie of Carrey's that he'd be open to revisiting. He also recently told ComicBook.com that he'd be down to film a sequel to the live-action How the Grinch Stole Christmas — but only “if we could figure out the Grinch.”

Carrey played the titular character in the film, an adaptation of Dr. Seuss's 1957 book, released by Universal Pictures in November 2000. But playing his character required wearing copious amounts of makeup and being covered head-to-toe in green faux fur and heavy prosthetics.

“The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe. It was an extremely excruciating process," Carrey told the outlet. "The children were in my mind all the time: ‘It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.' "

"And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things," he added.
"Anything is possible in this world."
