Jim Carrey Confirms He Shaved Off His Real Hair While Filming a Scene in 'Sonic 3'
The actor told Entertainment Weekly that he had been growing his hair out for "a year and a half"
Jim Carrey underwent a dramatic transformation for Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
The actor, 63, revealed in an exclusive behind-the-scenes interview with Entertainment Weekly that he shaved his actual hair in a scene for the upcoming live-action comedy flick, in which he reprises his role as the main antagonist Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik.
Carrey’s mad scientist character rocks an unhinged amount of bedhead at the top of the clip – which pairs well with his signature wacky mustache.
But in the scene, Ivo transforms back into his bald look as another character, his assistant Stone, played by Lee Majdoub, gives him the big chop.
"We are shooting Sonic 3 and I just cut Jim Carrey’s hair on camera," Majdoub says giddily in the video. "It was so much fun and he wanted me to do it, and he showed me a lot of trust."
During the shaving montage, which sees Majdoub alternating between using scissors and an electric shaver, Carrey reveals that he had been growing his hair out for "a year and a half."
"The doctor is back," the two-time Golden Globe winner proclaims in the video as he touches his newly shaved head.

The movie sequel brings back Carrey in his infamous role, as well as Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles, and James Marsden and Tika Sumpter. Keanu Reeves also newly joins the cast of the adaptation of Sega's video game series as the voice of Shadow.
"Sonic, Knuckles and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before," teases a synopsis. "With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet."

After the theatrical release of Sonic 2 in 2022, Carrey opened up about getting into character to portray the villainous creator in a behind-the-scenes featurette.
"I throw the spaghetti against the wall, see if it sticks, see if it's al dente," Carrey said. "I know the material, and then, of course I want to try it a bunch of different ways. Give the director so much to work with, so many levels of emotion, so many levels of cartoon. I'll do them all night if they let me."
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is in theaters Dec. 20.
