Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson's Marriage Wasn't Working "For a While" Before Separation
"He is not what she needs."
All good things must come to an end, and for Jessica Simpson, that means her marriage to Eric Johnson. The "I Wanna Love You" singer is gearing up to move on from their relationship sooner rather than later, but their decision to split was a long time in the making, according to new source reports.
“For Jessica, he is not what she needs,” an Us Weekly source said of the pop star's relationship with Johnson. “It’s just not working and hasn’t for a while.” The new reports mirror what previous sources have said about Simpson and Johnson's relationship, with a source telling People "their marital issues have felt suffocating for a while. She needs to move on for her own well-being." Another source told Page Six, that there were "trust issues" between the two that "drove a wedge between them.”
As for Simpson's post-separation plans, the singer is gearing up to release new music soon—her first new album in 16 years—and is leaving behind the relationship in order to put herself, as well as her happiness, first. "She isn’t going to worry about [what he is doing] and is doing her thing too,” the Us source explained. “She has her own mind, money, and family support for whatever happens.”
Simpson and Johnson, despite their split, will put on a united front for their three children. Us reports that Johnson is a “great dad” to their kids, Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5: “She has the best kids and they are healthy and love is there."
