Jeremy Strong’s ‘Hilarious’ Childhood Anecdote About Dunkin’ Brews Up Quite the Reaction

Succession star Jeremy Strong stunned fans with his unexpected appearance in the Super Bowl Dunkin' commercial directed by Ben Affleck, in which he delivered a speech as Paul Revere.

But a childhood anecdote the actor shared about Dunkin' and his father in an interview published after the big game really got fans going.

In a new interview with Variety, Strong went into detail about his creative process. He shared what led to his iconic appearance in the commercial, which included a shot of him emerging from a tin of coffee in a reference to Apocalypse Now.

At one point in the conversation, Strong said, "I also had a memory of my dad. I grew up in Boston, and he used to send me into Dunkin’ Donuts to get one cream, two sugars."

"At some point that reminded me of the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem about Paul Revere’s midnight ride. And I thought, one creamer by land, two sugars by sea," he concluded, with the last line referenced in the new commercial.

One fan shared this anecdote on X, simply writing, "Jeremy Strong is hilarious, oh my god," and many fans seemed to agree.

"This is so real," declared a different fan, as another joked, "Actually, every Bostonian instinctively thinks about the founding fathers whenever we enter Dunkin Donuts."

Other fans shared intense appreciation for the actor, with more comments like, "jeremy strong means so much to me," "i wanna be him," and "Feels like he’s in on the bit lol," with the latter referencing how people sometimes criticize him for his method acting.

In his new interview with Variety, he admitted that his performance in the Dunkin' ad was purposely joking about this perception of him, telling the publication, "I wanted to poke fun at this idea of me as this sententious, self-serious actor. It was my response to the idea that I ‘don’t get the joke.'”
