Jennifer Lopez Revives ‘Revenge’ Dressing in Tamara Ralph Double Slit Look for ‘Unstoppable’ Movie Premiere at Toronto International Film Festival
Jennifer Lopez revived the “revenge dress” for the premiere of “Unstoppable” on Friday at the Toronto International Film Festival.
She made a dazzling arrival on the red carpet in a shimmering Tamara Ralph dress from the brand’s fall 2024 couture collection and third season from her namesake label. WWD’s Alex Wynne described the couture line in a review as evoking a love affair with Paris. “Tamara Ralph was in romantic mode,” Wynne wrote. “After two collections built around armor-like structures synonymous with feminine strength — and almost as if to prove her own resilience on her return to Paris — her fall offering was an ode to the city and the love affairs that begin here.”

The embellished double side-slit silhouette was emblazoned with an all-over mirror effect and cut with skin-baring exposures from the neckline down to the train. The gown’s vertical structure was maintained by voluminous black bows — though few, they added a romantic and coquettish juxtaposition.
The glow didn’t stop there. The actress accessorized with mirrored Dolce & Gabbana sandals, jewelry by Hassanzadeh and a Judith Leiber bag.
The Prime Video biographical sports drama is inspired by the triumph of collegiate wrestling champion Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg. Her “Unstoppable” co-stars Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, Don Cheadle and producer Matt Damon were also on the red carpet, but one of Damon’s co-producers, Ben Affleck, was not.
The premiere marked Lopez’s first major public appearance since she filed for divorce from Affleck in August after two years of marriage.
The movie is called “Unstoppable,” after all, so why not let the dress match? The empowering sartorial message comes during the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s “revenge dress” — when in 1994 she made an arrival in iconoclast style at the Serpentine Gallery in London on the same night Prince Charles revealed in an ITV documentary that he had an affair. The confession made headlines and so did her little black dress by Christina Stambolian, earning its moniker. The pair divorced two years later.
