Jennifer Lopez highlights 'ham and cheese on a roll' meme in Ben Affleck-free 2024 recap: 'It's gonna get better'
Lopez shared a roundup of her year, featuring her "This Is Me... Now" rollout and her speech at a Kamala Harris rally, amid her divorce from Affleck.
Like the lyrics of her 2001 song "I'm Gonna Be Alright" suggest, Jennifer Lopez is, well, gonna be alright after a turbulent year — right after she embraces some of her best, meme-worthy moments of 2024, that is.
The pop icon shared a yearly recap video Monday on Instagram, highlighting professional highs (including the release of her sci-fi thriller Atlas and Entertainment Weekly's cover story touting her critically lauded performance in the new movie Unstoppable) and personal struggles that she looks forward to overcoming next year.
Set to an orchestral version of her signature hit "Waiting for Tonight," Lopez's video begins with a highlight reel from her This Is Me... Now album-film rollout for the movie-music hybrid project inspired by her love story with Ben Affleck, her on-again, off-again partner from whom she got divorced earlier this year following two years of marriage.

Amid other TV clips from appearances on talk shows hosted by Jimmy Fallon and Graham Norton, Lopez's video also featured quotes from 2024 interviews she gave, particularly one that saw her observe, “In my low moments, I’ve learned to just feel the feelings and then let them go," as a clear nod to her breakup with Affleck.
Affleck doesn't appear in the reel at all, though Lopez's other headline-making moments do — including a viral clip from an interview with Vogue, in which Lopez stated that her go-to bodega order in New York City is a "ham and cheese on a roll" with an "orange drink," after which she looked to the camera and said, "If you know, you know." The moment was heavily meme'd on social media, and Lopez finally nodded to the reaction in her Instagram video, which spliced in a shot of her drinking an orange-colored flavor of her Delola beverage line.

The video ends with a powerful montage celebrating Lopez's recent accomplishments — namely a rousing presidential election speech she gave in support of Vice President Kamala Harris, and a huge Netflix billboard that reads, "Don't F with J.Lo" — as she voices optimism for what's ahead in 2025. “It’s gonna get better and it always does," she says.
“I honestly feel that the best is yet to come," Lopez continues toward the conclusion of the clip, which ends with a quote from Atlas: "Let’s go, bitch!"
On deck for 2025, Lopez will next headline a new adaptation of the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman, premiering in January at the Sundance Film Festival.
