Is This Jennifer Aniston’s Chance For Oscar Glory?

It’s the first Oscar buzz around a Jennifer Aniston movie in more than a decade (she last got a taste of awards season gossip when she played a bored housewife in The Good Girl opposite Jake Gyllenhaal). Now, you can see a clip from Cake, the film for which Aniston shed her glamorous image and took on the part of a car-crash survivor suffering from the after-effects of her accident.
People magazine has an exclusive clip from the film, which sees Aniston talk to her physical therapist (Meryl Streep’s daughter Mamie Gummer) by the side of a pool. “I am in a lot of pain,” Aniston says quietly. “Do you want to get better, really?” Gummer asks. “I do,” Aniston says. You can watch the clip here.
The film, which also stars Anna Kendrick and Sam Worthington, saw Aniston gain weight, wear a back brace and undergo hours in the makeup chair to add fake scars across her face and neck.
There’s no Australian release date for the film yet, but it will open in America on New Year’s Eve in order to qualify for awards season nominations. Will we see Aniston at the Oscars? Here’s hoping.
